Nelson Chenault-US PRESSWIRE
The Memphis Grizzlies officially cut three players today, to finalize their 2012-13 roster.
I tweeted this news earlier today, but I wanted to "get it on paper."
The Grizzlies have announced that they've officially released Ronald Dupree, Ronald "Flip" Murray and Jerome Jordan, finalizing their roster for the 2012-13 season.
These moves now bring the Grizzlies down to 13 players, on a roster which includes:
PG: Mike Conley, Jerryd Bayless, Tony Wroten
SG: Tony Allen, Josh Selby, Wayne Ellington
SF: Rudy Gay, Quincy Pondexter
PF: Zach Randolph, Marreese Speights, Darrell Arthur (injured)
Really, it seemed as if Jordan was the only player in the mix to possibly make this roster, based on his fairly decent play in the preseason, coupled with the injury to Arthur. But, no, the Grizzlies made it clear that they were going to stick with 13 players, something that prior to the start of the preseason seemed inevitable.
With the team changing hands, from Michael Heisley to Robert Pera's team, one had to believe that there was really little chance they were going to add any extra payroll before the keys were officially turned over. Couple that with the fact that the Grizzlies are $3 million-plus over the threshold, and, again, it wasn't very likely they were going to add any payroll unless necessary.
Still, the Arthur injury changed the game a little, but not enough, as we now know, to get Jordan inked.
So, fans, enjoy your 2012-13 Grizzlies -- at least for now!
