What you Need to Know

The Bucks find themselves welcoming the Grizzlies tonight with victories against Boston and Cleveland. They welcome the Grizzlies after 4 days rest and look to start the season 3-0 for the first time in seven years. We are coming off a convincing win against Utah and plan to continue defensive dominance after two days rest.

History

We have seen the Bucks three times the past three seasons. We have their number - Milwaukee is 0-3 in these three contests. Clearly, with their being in the Eastern conference, we don't see them much. But hey - who doesn't love seeing an old friend?

Fun Fact!

More than 14,000 fans participated in a team-naming contest in 1968 to name Wisconsin's second professional basketball team. According to the 1969-70 Milwaukee Bucks yearbook (which is now referred to as a media guide), R.D. Trebilcox of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, was one of 45 persons who suggested a name: the "Bucks." His reasoning: "Bucks are spirited, good jumpers, fast and agile."

Mr. Trebilcox won a new car for his efforts in helping to position Milwaukee's entry into the professional sports world with an enduring nickname.

Here's to you, R. D. Trebilcox.

Game Preview

Grizzlies, despite the loss against the Clippers in game one, are currently ranked second in the NBA in post-up offense. Furthermore, we're averaging 1.04 points per possession on post-ups. Yeah yeah yeah...I know. It's only game 4. But look at last years numbers - we were ranked fourth in the league with 0.87 points per possession. Want more? We're ranked 5th best in the league averaging 45.0 rebounds per game.

Furthermore, we're coming off a win against the Jazz - a matchup that initially proved interesting because of Utah's talented front court. The Grizzlies answered the perception by grabbing 51 boards.

Milwaukee opened with a 99-88 win at Boston this past Friday, then beat Cleveland with Brandon Jennings' heroism. See the video below in case you haven't seen it:

I don't quite know how Jennings got the extra second to get the shot off, but oh well - although the Bucks were outrebounded and committed way too many turnovers, they got the win. And a win's a win.

Behind Jennings, Monta Ellis put up 23 and Mike Dunleavy 29 with 12 rebounds. Dunleavy is becoming more and more of a fan-favorite, and Bucks' coach Scott Skiles sees this. Expect to see Dunleavy off the bench a bit more than usual tonight.

Grizzlies Down-Low Dominance

Marc Gasol's 22 points and 10 rebounds helped us earn a 103-94 win over Utah this past Monday night. Zach Randolph came beside him to add 16 points as Quincy Pondexter led bench-scoring with 14 points. The Bucks have had trouble facing size in their previous two games - Anderson Varejao had an absolute field day and was able to claim 17 rebounds and 20 points.

In my opinion, the Grizzlies have one of the best front court lineups in the league. The Bucks have always had trouble against size. They're not gonna mix too well with Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph. Milwaukee's lucky Darrell Arthur isn't back yet, or they wouldn't be able to catch a break.

Look for Coach Hollins to put emphasis on size tonight while trying to exercise the occasional outside shot. Although the Bucks are off to a hot start (especially according to ESPN), I think they fall tonight and disappoint the fans at home.

Final Predictions

Marc Gasol - 11 rebounds, 18 points.

Zach Randolph - 18 rebounds, 18 points.

Yeah, I went there.

Score: Memphis 103, Milwaukee 95

I'll be on the gamethread tonight - I'll be sure to start it up 10 minutes before tipoff.

See you guys tonight!
