Report: Mike Bibby works out for the Grizzlies

Eric P. Mull-US PRESSWIRE

According to Sam Amick of USA Today, the Grizzlies are going to work out veteran point guard Mike Bibby.

This is an interesting bit of news, and not necessarily the most welcome.

According to Sam Amick, the Grizzlies are going to work out Mike Bibby while in Phoenix in hopes to add some extra depth to the point guard position.

He writes:

According to two people with knowledge of the situation, the Memphis Grizzlies are working out veteran point guard Mike Bibby today in Phoenix. Bibby, the 34-year-old who lives in the Phoenix area, has been out of work since playing 39 games for the New York Knicks last season.

According to one of the people who requested anonymity because of the private nature of the situation, the Grizzlies are one of "four or five" teams that will be working him out as he attempts to sign on with a team for the second half of the season. The Lakers, however, are not one of them.

This one falls on Jerryd Bayless, who hasn't quite been the backup point guard the Grizzlies expected him to be. I suppose the good news is that at this point you're just looking at Bibby to play about 8-10 minutes per game, not much more than that. Can he be helpful? Sure. But is he much of a impact add? No, not at all.
