The Grizzlies have lost swingman Quincy Pondexter after he suffered an MCL sprain last night.
It's being called a "grade 2 MCL sprain," and as of today Quincy Pondexter is listed as being "out indefinitely," which isn't a good sign. Not for a player as important to the Grizzlies as Q-Pon is.
Arguably the most important player off the bench for the Grizzlies -- based on his ability to stretch the floor and play a versatile game at the wing position -- Pondexter's loss is a tough one for the Grizzlies. Especially since, as Ron Tillery points out, Zach Randolph missed two-plus months with a grade 2 MCL tear last season. So, it's hard to imagine we'll see Pondexter back on the court anytime soon.
Team SOV will continue to update as official word comes in, regarding a timetable, but it looks like the Grizzlies are going to have to start looking for a replacement.
One note: NBA teams can start signing players to 10-day contracts starting January 5, 2013.
