2012 NBA Draft: Royce White Pulls Out of Workout with Grizzlies Due to Injury

Royce White has been climbing himself lately atop the draft board, as he is a mid-to-late first-rounder in this year's NBA Draft. White is a versatile power forward who played at Iowa State and is looking to be a success in the pros.

White was scheduled to have a workout with the Memphis Grizzlies for Saturday, but all of a sudden pulled out as he announced Friday he won't be able to participate. According to Chris Herrington of the Memphis Flyer, White pulled out due to an unspecified knee injury.

With that in place, does Memphis really even have a shot at drafting him? Do they really even want him?

White is a nice prospect, or shall I say...interesting. He has made some of his issues known to the public, as he suffers from anxiety disorder. He also says he has a fear of flying and has had other off-the-court issues. He's also a bit too old for his class, being 21-years-old as a sophomore.

However, according many draft experts so far, he has made his talent forgot that and hasn't done so bad actually.

White is very athletic for a power forward and his size at 6-8 and 261 pounds. He plays like a point forward and has superb ball-handling and passing skills. Chad Ford says he has the body and frame that is fit for the league.

White averaged 13.4 points and 9.3 rebounds last year with the Cyclones, showing he can rebound well and also being a solid scorer inside and outside of the paint. He is currently ranked the fourth best player at his position by ESPN.

He is expected to be near about the 20th pick, but will likely fall to the Boston Celtics at the 21st or 22nd pick. However, there is also a chance he could fall all the way to Memphis at No. 25. Boston could easily take a guy like Fab Melo or Andrew Nicholson as well, which leaves White as the odd man out.

However, even if White does fall to the Grizzlies, do we really need him? Memphis is literally stacked at the power forward position, having guys like Zach Randolph, Marreese Speights, Darrell Arthur and Dante Cunningham occupying the spot well.

The only way Memphis would really draft White is if they would trade one of the four, which seems like it could be Z-Bo. Memphis' starting-five have some hefty contracts with Randolph, Marc Gasol, Rudy Gay and Mike Conley. They look to try to re-sign OJ Mayo and trading Randolph could be the likely move.

However, I don't see it happening. Randolph is a very important part of the team and adding an unproven power forward who could still make his off-the-court issues known could be a very risky move.

What do you think, Grizzlies fans? Would you take Royce White?
