I was reading somewhere -- and I don't think I'm even going to bother posting the link, but if you Google "Marc Gasol Trade Rumors" you'll see the SEO friendly headline in your timeline, though, I wouldn't bother -- on the Internet a post in which a blogger suggested that the Philadelphia 76ers should trade Andre Iguodala (and underwhelming pieces) to the Memphis Grizzlies for Rudy Gay and Marc Gasol.
Here's where I'll stop you. First, a trade involving Rudy Gay, Marc Gasol and Andre Iguodala that doesn't involve Evan Turner and about 3 future first-round draft picks -- which this didn't -- should not be taken seriously. Second, Marc Gasol is not and will not be put on the trading block this or any summer in the near future. He's untouchable.
And I say this not because he's the best player in the league, but because there really isn't an ideal trade partner out there for a 7-foot All-Star center who is just entering the prime of his career.
Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, etc., can't be had for Gasol and Grizzlies pieces. So, don't get me wrong, it's not as if I'm saying he's in that class. But, on the flip-side, Gasol can't be had for the class of players that include Andre Iguodala, Amar'e Stoudemire, Danny Granger, etc. All very good players, but not 7-foot franchise players.
With that, really, there should be no Marc Gasol trade rumors floating around the Internet this summer. There just isn't a deal out there that would entice the Grizzlies. Yes, again, you would trade him for Kevin Durant, but... And no, you wouldn't deal him for Amar'e Stoudemire. See what I'm getting at?
If you can find me a suitable deal that involves Marc Gasol, please post it. Because I just can't seem to find one. And because of that, I will continue to disregard any and all Gasol trade rumors this summer, because as far as I'm concerned they are all nonsense.
