Grizzlies trump Lakers on the road, regain their composure

Jeff Gross

It wasn't perfect, and it wasn't pretty, but wasn't that just perfect? This was the sort of game the Grizzlies have needed, one where they scratched and fought for the advantage, and ultimately fought harder than the other team.

Did Zach Randolph get a much needed break from his newborn child duties at home? Because that man came out ready to play some basket-effing-ball tonight. The Grizzlies got off to the hot start they sorely needed, and although their rhythm faltered throughout the game, they made enough plays to seal their first victory on the road.

Did I mention that Zach Randolph was a freakish beast tonight? The guy could not miss in the 4th quarter, and the Grizzlies rode his enormous shoulders the entire final stretch. Mike Conley had a rough game, but kept the ball moving enough to facilitate points elsewhere. Tony Allen, Mr. Efficiency of the Game, came away with 12 points off a perfect 6/6 shooting, along with 6 rebounds and 2 assists.

There's still so many aspects that need work, but this was the sign that many Grizzlies fans were looking for, and this could give Memphis some much-needed momentum going into the rest of their California road trip. Celebrate the win, Griz fans, but get ready for some adversity that will hopefully continue to bring out the Grizzlies' Grit'n'Grind.
