Change is coming to Straight Outta Vancouver: Later this week, the site will have a new name.
The Vancouver Grizzlies were established for the 1995–1996 NBA season. They moved and became the Memphis Grizzlies before the 2001–2002 season. They’ve been in Memphis now for twice as long as they were in Vancouver, and they’ve established deep roots in Memphis that (we hope) will keep them here for as long as there’s an NBA.
The time has come for a name that looks forward to the future of the Grizzlies—in Memphis—and references what they are, instead of where they started. The teal and the black was fun while it lasted (just ask Shareef Abdur-Rahim), but Vancouver was a long time ago.
We’ll be renaming the blog within the next week. It’s going to be awesome. I’m proud of the work that every one of our contributors does, and I’m proud of our community of passionate, knowledgeable Grizzlies fans. Changing the name is only going to help us move onwards and upwards.
Stay tuned! It’s an exciting time to be a part of SOV!
