Only the Miami Heat (in a 11-game winning streak) and the Memphis Grizzlies (on a 7-game winning streak) are in a substantial active winning streak in the NBA right now. As we look at their last 7 games, here are some factors that spurred them in a good winning streak:
1. Teams that they faced
Out of the seven games that the Grizzlies played against, five of them are lottery teams (Raptors, Magic, Wolves, Kings, Pistons). Knowing that the Grizzlies are geared for a playoff run this April, these are teams that they should (and did) beat.
2. Good Rebounding
In six out of the seven games, the Grizzlies outrebounded their opponents (except their game against Brooklyn Nets 44-39). This is crucial, mind you, since their group of big men are very capable rebounders (Randolph, Gasol, and Davis to name a few). Using rebounding a part of their strengths as a team is a recipe for success.
3. Improving bench
Their bench point has quite improved in this seven-game stretch, averaging at 29.43 points/game. With key players like Ed Davis, Austin Daye, Darrell Arthur, and Jerryd Bayless, they have a good, quality bench that can somehow give rest for their starters. Also, this can give them confidence moving forward.
Soon, their winning streak will end. Fans should be feeling good about this stretch but also they should not be overjoyed about it (look at no. 1). However, the team's jelling well and are poised to be at the upper echelon of the Western Conference.
