Early on, it looked like this would be the classic bounce-back game. Memphis was desperate for a feel-good win. Golden State, meanwhile, was on a nightmare trip. They got blistered at Houston and OKC earlier this week.
But, by halftime Friday night, you could see that it was going to be a long night. The 3rd quarter was a classic back n' forth struggle. It gave fans visions of a possible playoff series.
The much anticipated Randolph-Lee matchup went like this: Zach had 16 & 11, David countered with 26 & 6. Z-Bo, who didn't miss a free throw out of 8, had a huge tip-in to put Memphis up 6 late. It was a preview of the final score.
The back-up combo guard matchup of Jack vs Bayless was a letdown. Jarrett was out with a shoulder injury. Jerryd took advantage, continuing his recent scoring tear with 13.
Tony Allen, who didn't play the entire 4th quarter up in Golden State last time, had an inspired game: 17 points, on 7/8 shooting, with 2 steals.
The 4th quarter belonged to Marc Gasol, controlling both ends of the floor. High post, low post...he commanded the game late. Marc finished with 20 & 11.
New Grizz, Austin Daye, also had a nice run. He scored 12 points in 17 minutes.
Mike Conley admitted after the game that "we looked at the standings before the game." It showed.
The final score was 99-93 as Memphis sweeps their season series with GSW.
