Report: Memphis Grizzlies Sign Donte Greene

Troy Taormina-US PRESSWIRE

The Grizzlies add another able body to a struggling bench right before the playoffs.

After signing D-League player Willie Reed and waiving Dexter Pittman, the Memphis Grizzlies have now signed fifth year forward Donte Greene for the remainder of the season according to Commercial Appeal's Ronald Tillery.

Greene, who stands at 6 foot 11, has averaged 6.1 points and 2.4 rebounds during tenure with the Sacramento Kings, spending most of his time as a reserve for the franchise. While his height screams post player Greene has played mostly small forward in his short career.

Despite never playing a career game for the Memphis Grizzlies, Donte Greene has close ties to this franchise. The pick that turned into Greene (28th overall in the 2008 NBA Draft) was received by the Grizzlies in the trade that sent Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles Lakers. And on draft night, Greene was involved in the 3-team trade that sent Darrell Arthur to Memphis and himself to the Kings.

Like Willie Reed, Greene will be joining an extremely packed frontcourt and with minimal practice time figuring out the defensive schemes, it'll be unlikely that he'll have a chance to make an impact in the playoffs.
