Hey, you...yeah, you, the 7'1" 270 pound Spanish bear who may or may not frequent nude beaches in Spain according to SI.
I know, as Kelly details often you would rather be a point guard. I also know that you are a great teammate and defender, as does the rest of the NBA now. You don't get DPoY any other way. I get that you and Z-Bo are brothers from another mother. I understand that you think Mike is a top PG in the NBA; you're right, he is. All of this is well and good a majority of the time and you're selflessness and pride in the team is a major part of why we Memphians love you so much. You're one of us, and as a transplant Memphian you're a major reason why I love this team.
All that being said, damn it Marc, it's time. It's time for the post to become yours. You and Zach can share the space; at this point, it is about winning, not about anybody's ego. Make the offense yours. Get your massive Spanish body in the box and crush. Smash. Use your finesse move, the Dream Shake, the baby hook, the standing jumper from the top of the key. Hell, even though it makes me want to dropkick people, shoot a fade away a few times. Your defensive domination is clear; now it is time to make the offensive end your home as well. You are the key to this team now. Zach is still important, Mike is still important. But you are the Franchise, the second team All-NBA player. Now is your time; if the Grizzlies are going to make history, it is going to be because you became "The Man."
As outlined in an awesome article on this site, the Wendigo is a monster that humans can transform into. It is a violent specter, tall and lanky, with glowing eyes and terrible claws, according to Super-Wiki. Here's my favorite part from the link...
The Wendigo's full powers have never been recorded.
If that isn't fitting of Big Spain, I don't know what is. It's time. Time to embrace your new role on this team. Time to dig deep, as Lionel Hollins said yesterday, into your soul and see what you've got. Greatness breeds greatness, and your teammates will rise with you to make history. But it starts with you. Take what is yours and become Wendigo. As Popovich says, there is no Game 3, there is no Game 5, there is only Game 4. It starts tonight.
Confucius said "Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." From the depths of an 0-3 deficit against one of the great teams in the NBA, this Memphis team can rise to the greatest glory imaginable in professional basketball. But it starts with you. It's time for the Marc Gasol era to begin. It is time for Wendigo to rise.
