Earlier today the Memphis Grizzlies held a press conference introducing the teams newest player Kosta Koufos whom they acquired in a draft-day
steal trade that sent Darrell Arthur and Joffrey Lauvergne to the Denver Nuggets. Here's what he had to say at the press conference:
Your reaction when you first heard of the trade?
You know the NBA is a business and I understand and have to be professional about everything. With Memphis, this past season making the Western Conference finals, I'm very honored to be apart of this organization. I'm here to help them with everything they need, with another big coming off playing minutes. My ultimate goal and everybody else's ultimate goal is try and win a ring and that's what our mindset is and I think we have all the pieces to the puzzles to have a successful season for that for next year.
Is it going to be hard for you to adjust and go back to a reserve role?
Not at all. Like I said this is a NBA role and I'm going to be professional about it and I'm here to play hard and work hard. I'm very fortunate and very blessed to be apart of this organization and to be apart of the NBA. I'm living my dream, being a young center in this league and I'm still growing and still learning. At the same time though I'm very confident in my abilities and what I bring to the table so whatever role he wants me to play Imma play hard and play my best ability and hope the team wins as many games this year and into the postseason.
Are you looking forward to working with Marc Gasol?
Definitely. You know Marc Gasol is, in my opinion, one of the better centers in this league and he's shown that throughout his whole career. With me being a young guy I want to learn from him and get better from him especially in practice as well. I think we have a very strong front court as well with guards surrounding the whole team. We got a great staff, managing staff and the coaching staff and like I said before, we have all the collective pieces to the puzzle to be successful for next season and I'm looking forward to it. I think we're all excited as an organization and as a whole.
Impression of the Grizzlies as a Nugget?
First impression, the Grindhouse, so it speaks for itself. Everybody here works hard, bangs on the boards, toughness. That's one word when you think of the Memphis Grizzlies when I was playing with the Nuggets at times. Thats one word you stamp on the Memphis Grizzlies is toughness and they show that every game. I feel like I can fit that role very well. Whatever my role with coach once he puts me in, I'm gonna play to my best abilities and play tough along with the other players on the team.
