Memphis Grizzlies trade Tony Wroten to Philadelphia 76ers for 2nd round pick

Teardrop.. - Nelson Chenault-US PRESSWIRE

No joke? The ink on Nick Calathes' contract just dried and Tony Wroten is out of Memphis.

Well that settles that. One by one, the Heisley/Wallace people continue to fall off the Griz tree. The Memphis Grizzlies have traded 2nd year PG Tony Wroten to the Philadelphia 76ers for a future 2nd round draft pick that is top-50-protected.

For those of you who don't know, that's essentially giving Tony Wroten away. We all knew some sort of trade was on the horizon with the acquisition of Fab Melo, but I doubt the majority of us thought it would be Wroten to get the boot. Essentially, Wroten's horrendous Summer League performance did him in with the front office, and I can see where they are coming from. If you're going to roll the dice on a backup PG in a championship contending year, it might as well be on someone who has been producing something at the professional level for a while. Enter: Nick Calathes.

The Grizzlies shed $1.2-ish million dollars from their '13-'14 team salary. Perhaps this is the end of roster moves, perhaps this is just setting up something bigger.

One thing is for sure, tis the end of the Wroten era in Memphis, TN. I'd post some highlights below, but there's nothing out there besides that game against the Lakers. So to sum it up, Wroten blocked Kobe and got a nice breakaway dunk. Murder-T-Wroten, it's a shame that you're going into the pile along with every other Memphis Grizzlies draft pick not named Mike Conley.
