WMC-TV reported yesterday that Forbes Magazine, during their evaluation of all 30 NBA franchise, has valued the Memphis Grizzlies at $453 million, good for 24th in the league.
This near-half-billion mark represents the triumphant evolution of the Grizzlies franchise as the Grizzlies' value has grown 20% (+$76 million) from the $377 million Robert Pera (and others) paid for the team 2 years ago. It's also worth nothing that the value is up about 65% ($293 million) from the $160 million that Michael Heisley originally paid for the team.
That's some data that would look great on a chart, and although the Grizzlies record isn't what fans hoped for this season, it's hard to argue that the current ownership is doing anything less than a stellar job at operating the franchise as a whole.
However, if they want to continue on this trend and have GBB's blessing, they may need to shore up the salary situation a few notches.
