Moves will be made this offseason with key contributors being free agents, like Ed Davis and Beno Udrich, and a bad contract now becomes a good trade piece, in Tayshaun Prince. So how can we improve?
A few things I would like to see happen:
Option A. Trade up in the draft. Grizzlies have baffled me with draft selections last few years and in general the Grizzlies have been terrible at drafting. But this year there are players that could help right away. The Grizzlies have a few pieces they could trade to move up into the 10-15 range. A player like Doug McDermott could fill a huge need at the 3 position, and give us that player who can score from anywhere. other options could be James Young, Rodney Hood.
Option B. Trade for a good player. Big names are moving this offseason, so why not attach to one of these trades. At the trade deadline last season, we where close to a deal with Minn, and wanted to get Barnes. Well those two teams are in trade talks right now, and we could be a pivotal 3rd team to help push this trade. We have contracts to make the trade work, with Lee and Prince, and young players/draft picks to also help move this trade along, with Franklin. Think if we could ship 2 of those 4 options off, and in return receive Harrison Barnes and J.J. Barea. I think these two players would be huge for the Grizzlies. Harrison is a starter at a position we need help at terribly, and Barea as insurance behind Conley, where, frankly we have none right now.
So what do you think? which is the best route for the grizzlies? Which way will make the Grizzlies better next season?
