The Portland Trail Blazers are a hurting team that was once considered a contender this season; meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies are surging, though they were supposed to be somewhere back with the Nets.
So it's fitting to their opposite circumstances that the Grizzlies and the Blazers have split their series so far this season. First the Grizzlies got shown to the door at home, getting embarrassed 93-79 during worse times, then Memphis took it to Portland in the Rose Garden. Neither game was particularly close.
This time around, however, Portland won't have quite the personnel to match the Grizzlies humongous front line of Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph. They will have a 4 guard rotation of superstar-in-the-making Brandon Roy, Andre Miller, Steve Blake, and, one of my personal favorite players, Jerryd Bayless.
Tonight's game, then, will probably be a somewhat lopsided affair. If O.J. Mayo and Mike Conley, or more importantly Jamaal Tinsley and Sam Young, can keep the smaller Blazers in check, it's going to be another upset in Portland. If they shoot fire, well, expect some interesting results.
After what we've seen so far this season, it certainly won't be surprising.
