Grizzlies Draft Greivis Vasquez With 28th Pick

With two new shooting guards already picked, the Memphis Grizzlies have selected Greivis Vasquez of Maryland with their 28th and final pick in the 2010 NBA Draft.

Greivis Vasquez is definitely a below average athlete, but is a huge, 6'6" tall point guard with excellent vision. He has excellent basketball IQ and is a tremendous passer. Vasquez might not be a top tier shooter or scorer, but he looks to jump into the league about average for a backup point guard. It seems likely that he'll be the backup point guard on opening day.

Currently it seems that all three players are staying on the Grizzlies roster, though it seems possible that Dominique Jones could be traded.

The draft might signal that the Grizzlies are definitely paying Rudy Gay, since they drafted three guards.

More thoughts on the draft will be up this morning, but Grizzlies fans have to be fairly happy with the selections. None of these three were my favorites, but I don't hate any of them either. And certainly this draft is more promising than last year's double reaches of Hasheem Thabeet and DeMarre Carroll, but its difficult to say at this point.
