(SB Nation, Kevin McCauley) Memphis Grizzlies leading scorer Rudy Gay has been diagnosed with a concussion, according to Grizzlies blog Commercial Appeal. Gay had to come out of the Grizzlies' game against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night with nine minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, after taking an elbow to the head from Nene.
He did not return to the game because he was showing concussion-like symptoms, and the diagnosis was reportedly handed down on Monday.
The NBA has a new concussion policy that will require Gay to complete a series of tests to ensure he is healthy before he returns to action. The team also has to consult with a neurologist before Gay suits back up for the team.
Because of the nature of his injury, there is no timetable for Gay's return. The Grizzlies host the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday.
