What Grizzlies Fans Should Look For in Tonight's NBA Draft Lottery

Hey, I have good news and bad news. Let me give you the bad news first: I'm sorry to say, but tonight there is NO shot that the Memphis Grizzlies will be lucky enough to select Anthony Davis with the top overall pick.

Now, time for the good news... We're not in the NBA Draft Lottery because we made the playoffs, again!

More bad news... Only to be bounced in the first round by the Los Angeles Clippers.

Good news... that only means we didn't have to be steamrolled by the San Antonio Spurs!

Bad news... We have one pick in the draft, with two huge needs, and it's the 25th overall pick.

Good news... Tony Allen was the 25th overall pick back in 2004!

Bad news... Johan Petro was the 25th overall pick in 2005.

Ok, enough with the depressing and not-so depressing news. Tonight is indeed the NBA Draft Lottery, and while we don't have a lottery pick, there are some storylines Grizzlies fans probably want to follow.

Two teams in our division have lottery picks: the Houston Rockets (14th) and the New Orleans Hornets (4th and 10th). So, there's a shot that the Hornets can leap into the top spot, possibly even grabbing two of the top 2-5 picks. Might be interesting. Look, even if the Hornets were to get Anthony Davis and Andre Drummond, that wouldn't still make them a very good team for at least another few years. But, something to follow long term.

Other than that, I suppose you can follow the Portland Trail Blazers, who have a shot at getting two very good picks, and the Sacramento Kings, who if they're able to jump up to the top spot and grab Anthony Davis, yikes. Putting him with DeMarcus Cousins would be scary.

So, Grizzlies fans, there's no pressing pick or scenario -- like, say, the Spurs own the Bobcats pick -- to where we should be so worried about tonight;s happenings. Just enjoy watching some ping-pong balls determine the future of 14 NBA franchises!

Oh, and I'll be there live tonight, updating the happenings, taking photos and whatnot-ing. I'll post more details later, but you can follow along on Twitter:
