GBB Interview: Leia Sergakis

A quick conversation with Leia Sergakis.

Soma Strong

In the midst of the NBA offseason, I got a chance to speak (via e-mail) with Leia Sergakis, the significant other of Memphis Grizzlies center Kosta Koufos. Before the interview here's some background information on Leia.

Leia was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. She and Kosta Koufos now call Memphis home with their recent trade from the Denver Nuggets to the Grizzlies. Leia graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Argumentation and Conflict Resolution. Leia currently is a Personal Trainer and has started her own online personal training business at Soma Strong where she enjoys helping people transform their people's bodies and reach their health goals.

Simply put, if you loved Adriana Lima, you'll love Sergakis. Without further ado, here it is.

Trisity Miller: When a player gets traded it isn't just them that are affected. What was your initial reaction to the draft night trade that sent Kosta Koufos to Memphis?

Leia Sergakis: I was a little surprised about the trade, but like anything you never know how long you will be in any given situation. I was excited for Kosta this is a new and amazing opportunity for him.

What did you know about Memphis or Tennessee prior to the trade?
Barbecue! Haha. Once my friends and family found out about our trade that's all they could talk about is the southern cooking.

If I'm correct you and Koufos have been in Memphis for a while. How has the city been to you so far?
I have enjoyed it. I grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah where there wasn't much cultural diversity. That is something I love about Memphis there is a very rich culture here. Different types of people and personalities. Everyone here has been extremely welcoming to Kosta and I.

Can we expect to see you around the Fed Ex Forum throughout the season?
I didn't miss a home game while he was with the Nuggets and I don't intend to start now. I will be at every game cheering him on :)

Besides Kosta, of course, who's your favorite player in the NBA at the moment?
This may sound cliche but I honestly just focus on Kosta. At the games I'm always just watching him and don't see anything else. I'm so proud of him and being able to see all his hard work and dedication pay off means a lot to me. You could name numerous nba players and I probably wouldn't even know who they are. Not because of ignorance I just happened to fall in love with a man who plays basketball as a profession.

I saw that you were in the competition for Miss Utah. How was that experience?
It was a good experience. You learn to put yourself out there. It is very subjective so I did it for myself with no expectations.

You tweeted about Drake's latest album "Nothing Was The Same". What's your take on it?
I really like his new album, it's very deep. The song "Too Much" is my favorite. So often on the radio songs lack substance and I like this expressive side of Drake.
