Grizzlies vs Piston: The Home Opener

On Friday night, the Grizzlies will host the Pistons for their home opener, and hopefully things will begin to gel for Memphis.

The Memphis Grizzlies return to Beale Street Nov 1st for their home opener. Memphis looks to a hungry audience to fuel their efforts to solidify their identity under new head coach, Dave Joerger.

Game tipoff between Memphis and Orlando is set for 7pm CDT, and can be viewed in the Memphis area on Fox SportsSouth or via radio on 92.9 FM ESPN. The Grizzly Bear Blues GameThread is scheduled for 6:00pm, so look to that post to vent all your commentary for the game tonight.

Recently for the Grizzlies: Memphis laid a big ole egg of sorts in San Antonio on Wednesday, and things need to appear more fluid for the home opener against the Pistons. I'd expect the home crowd to energize this team to a level that needs to be considered their standard for the season. I think the defense will be more disciplined, the offense will be more balanced and the Grizzlies should be able to impose their pace of game that has proven so effective in the past.

Recently for the Pistons: Detroit won their first home opener in five seasons. The Pistons are able to get scoring production from every position on the court, and while they don't have much of a bench presence, the starters are high volume shooters that can put up numbers in spurts. Greg Monroe played lights out in the opener with 24 points, 16 rebounds and 3 assists.

The Last Meeting: February 19th, 2013. Mike Conley and Zach Randolph led the Grizzlies to a 105-91 victory in Tayshaun Prince's homecoming following the blockbuster trade a few weeks earlier. That was a depleted and downtrodden Pistons team that has some new life in the 2013-14 season, so the Grizzlies need to bring their A game to snuff out an upset in their home opener.
