When I write these bits, my mind is usually scanning over whatever recent points of Grizzlies interest. I was just thinking about Marc Gasol's free-throw shooting, and how those free-throw shots are about to be replaced by Kosta Koufos and Ed Davis at the foul line, and it was quite an accomplishment to hold back the tears that wanted to be shed.
That's more a testament to how supreme Gasol is at the line, rather than how ugly Koufos and Davis are in their approach. Marc Gasol is able to use his foul shooting prowess as a huge part of his arsenal as a basketball player. Fouling Gasol's shot is a near-guaranteed 2 points, whereas most all other players his size seem to convert 1 of of those 2 on a yearly basis.
This begs the questions of when and how we may see Jon Leuer deployed in Gasol's absence. Not one single player can come close to substituting for Gasol, but our backup big men might each be able to contribute to a piecemeal replacement plan. I'm hoping that Joerger is able to identify the weaker lineup options for Koufos and Davis, and chooses to see what Leuer is able to do in their stead on occasion.
And I'd just like to point out that the Leuertenant is shooting 100% from the free-throw line this season.
