Final Score: Grizzlies 108, Kings 101

The Grizzlies beat the Kings tonight in what was, by all accounts, mostly the Tony Allen show. Allen had 19 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and a block.

Well, that was a showing from Tony Allen, huh? But also: Marc Gasol finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds -- interestingly enough, all 12 of Gasol's rebounds were defensive rebounds and not offensive -- on 8-13 shooting, and Mike Conley had 22 points on 6-12 shooting, including going 50% (2-4) from long range.

Overall, this game was a little tighter than Grizzlies fans probably would've liked, but the Kings have been playing tough lately, and they've showed signs of life at various points all season long. They just knocked off the Houston Rockets on Sunday night, so they've proven they can beat a good team when they get it together.

Tonight, though, the Griz simply had it more together.

Other highlights: Ed Davis had 4 points in his 6 minutes, and made some good plays while he was at it. Tayshaun Prince was the only Griz starter who didn't finish in double figures, shooting 3-7 and scoring 7, but the ball movement at times was so crisp that it didn't seem to matter much. Fans of the Rudy Gay trade are finding a lot to like in the Grizzlies' newfound love of swinging the ball from side to side in the halfcourt offense.

Let's see those victory haiku! And remember, the name change is happening tonight! You're going to like it, I hope. I sure do.
