Grind Prophecies: West Coast Spankings

New, comments

In the second meeting in a week between the two, the Grizzlies and Blazers face off at the Rose Garden where Portland is 20-10 this season. Can the Grizzlies start this testy West Coast road trip with a win?

It's a feeling.

When you were a kid, I'm sure there was an instance when you did something blatantly wrong and your mom, as sweet as she was, made the horrible decision to let "your father handle this." Or maybe it's been when a significant other throws out, "we need to have a talk, but not now." Or maybe you had neither of these instances, in which case your most likely comparable scenario is a boss calling you into his office to confront a series of sexual harassment accusations.

Which ever case you relate to you know the feeling. The feeling of imminent, yet uncertain, doom. The Grizzlies are facing such a feeling and are now on the long walk back to the bedroom to get what seems like a certain thrashing across the buttocks. They've been beating up on the little guys, the ones with glasses and strange friends that can't help but sneeze every time they get nervous, and now, daddy is home. Time to bite the blanket.

I am almost certain this trip will be a beating but its how we respond during the course of it which will mark our destiny for the remainder of the season. Playing a series of teams with which we have had our troubles all while playing in arenas we historically do not play well in, the Grizzlies have the daunting task of four games in five days all away from home against STIFF competitors.

Tonight marks the first game of this dreadful week and it will likely set the pace for the remainder of the week. The Portland Trail Blazers consistently give us a tough match-up. They have wonderful young talent, in LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard, and several consistent contributors in Nicolas BaNardPuncher and Wesley Matthews. As we wait to hear whether Zach Randolph or Darrell Arthur will return to the lineup, we can only hope this team knows the importance of the next four games, as they will likely determine our seeding in the playoffs.

Here's to tonight. It will all be okay as long as you do not let them see you cry.
