Last night, the Grizzlies held the Rockets scoreless for the final 1:51 of the game, and even though their own offense during that stretch was as about as pretty as a blobfish, the Griz played with a tenacity that is usually reserved for playoff basketball.
And the offense wasn't completely impotent down the stretch for the Grizzlies. Memphis assisted half of their FG's in the 4th Q while shooting 57.1% as a team. Dave Joerger allowed James Johnson to act as a sort of bucking bronco to get things stirred up, but balanced that nicely with timely substitutions to bring in Prince and Mike Miller for key situations.
With Memphis locked in defensively, they didn't really need a stellar offensive finish to counter Chandler and the Rockets.
You know what would be great, though? If the Grizzlies came out tonight with a stolen jar of whatever Chandler Parsons drank yesterday and put the Rockets down early with their own barrage of offense. We know it's possible. But is it possible with Marc Gasol slowly working back into shape? Will Courtney Lee continue his sharp shooting or is that inevitable letdown around the corner? Will the Griz come out flat after a late plane ride out of Houston last night?
Those are just some of the questions I'm asking myself before tonight's game, but they're all funneled towards what I really want to know. Can the Grizzlies come out hungry, angry and focused on enforcing their will on the Rockets?
The Grindmaster from last edition (at Rockets) was Courtney Lee.
