Grizzlies fans should be disappointed if Memphis doesn't make the Western Conference Finals

New, comment

Some high talk of the Memphis Grizzlies coming about these days.

ESPN.com's David Thorpe went on The Chris Vernon Show today and got me even more excited for Grizzlies basketball than I already was. This has been par for the course when it comes to Thorpe's view on the Griz, but it's still fun to hear a legitimate basketball mind talk highly of the G-bears.

Among the highlights are mentions of Memphis likely being the deepest 1-14 (roster) in the NBA, some gushing over Marc Gasol and Dave Joerger, and a few X's and O's that are going to work in the Grizzlies favor. Coach Thorpe shines a positive light through the entire roster, including players who have been under scrutiny (QPon, Tayshaun) while making it all sound pretty darn realistic.

Thorpe doesn't peg Memphis as the favorites in the west, but sees every reason to think they are competing for top honors. Here's my favorite part that he relayed to Chris Vernon:

If you don't make it to the Western Conference Finals, you should be disappointed. You have a really, really good team.

Take a listen to the segment and let me know what you think.

Are the expectations "Conference Finals or bust?"
