32 Thoughts About Opening Night

New, comment

To celebrate Big Spain's 32 points, here's 32 thoughts from opening night.

Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome, Aggressive Marc. And welcome back, Grizzlies basketball. Here's my 32 thoughts to celebrate Gasol's 32 points last night (a career high, I might add).

1. I really missed basketball. I mean, I REALLY missed basketball.

2. The pink Grizzlies headbands are sweeetttt

3. DNP for Prince. Seriously, he didn't play. Quiet the turnaround, huh?

4. From start to finish, Randolph had a monster game. He just dominated the paint and sprinkled in a few rainbow jumpers, too.

5. Next time I watch The Lion King, I'm pretty sure I'm going to have an image of Grizz holding up a baby flashing through my head.

6. While Conley had a quiet start, he still managed to rack up 16 points and 6 assists.

7. According to Marc Gasol, Yo Gotti's intros set the tone for the game:

8. Courtney Lee actually took shots! He ended up with 14 points on 5/11 shooting. He seemed less hesitant and more willing to shoot when he was open, which was a welcome sight.

9. There was an obvious lack of rebounding. Minnesota out rebounded Memphis by 14...

10. Tony Allen was, well, doing Tony Allen things. Flexing, missing a layup, stealing the ball, and yelling "First Team!" to the crowd... Yep, he's back!

11. Marc Gasol HAD 32 POINTS. #AggressiveMarc. I could totally get used to this.

12. Marc Gasol was ONE rebound away from a double double.

13. Super Grizz and the Kings of the Court were a welcome sight, too.

14. Everyone, including me, has said that this is the deepest roster in Grizzlies history. Unfortunately, the bench gave us only 10 points.

15. Jon Leuer had a bad night. Plain and simple. 0 points, 0 assists, 3 rebounds. This is Leuer's chance, but he doesn't have a super long leash.

16. This bench could really use Calathes. He provides craftiness, passing, and scoring. 12 games to go until he can play again.

17. Last night, an important part of Grizzlies history took place. Since moving to Memphis, the Beale Street Bears got their first season opener win. 1-13 on opening night now. THE STREAK HAS ENDED!

18. And since we won last night, we are UNDEFEATED for the first time ever. This is the year. I can feel it. Watch out, Western Conference.

19. Even on the first night of the season, even against the Timberwolves, the Grizzlies still manage to raise our blood pressure. Wins with the Grizzlies are never easy.

20. As with Jon Leuer, Kosta Kuofos did nothing. However, he only played... four minutes?

21. Check out this quadruple teaming on Z-Bo. #respect :

22. Though not playoff game intensity, the Forum was pretty loud last night.  There were definitely some hungry fans in there.

23. If you haven't checked it out already, be sure to go to the new Grizz Den next time you're at the Forum. There's some sweet new gear.

24. 1 game down, 81 games to go.

25. Honestly, Andrew Wiggins was pretty quiet last night. 6 points, 1 assist, 3 rebounds.

26. On the other hand, Thaddeus Young wasn't quiet with 26 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds.

27. Vince Carter addressing the crowd at the beginning was super cool.

28. Unfortunately, Vince hasn't quite found his groove yet.

29. Kevin Martin was inactive last night.

30. Off to Indiana tomorrow.

31. Off to Charlotte Saturday.
