The Grizzlies made it a perfect 4 for 4 to start the new season after defeating the Pelicans by 12 points last night. Tony Allen, Marc Gasol, and Zach Randolph all recorded double-doubles in the game.
Coming into the game, I was worried about how Memphis would handle Anthony Davis; I was expecting a big night from him. The Brow got himself into foul trouble by picking up 2 fouls in the first quarter, which would see him sat on the bench for a large chunk of the first 12 minutes. Davis shot 50% from the field, but only took 12 shots. He finished the game with 14 points and 8 rebounds. After recording 14 blocks through his first 2 games of the season, Davis only managed 1 block last night. Memphis did a fantastic job on both ends of the floor on the 21 year old all star.
Davis' front court partner, Omer Asik, had a terrible night, shooting just 1-7 from the field and making just 4-9 from the charity stripe for a total of 6 points.
Tyreke Evans led the way for the Pelicans with 21 points, whilst a bad night for Ryan Anderson saw him go 0-7 from behind the three point line.
Randolph, Gasol, and Allen all finished the game with double-doubles. Randolph has now achieved the feat in his first 4 games of the season.
All 5 Grizzlies starters ended the game with double-digit scoring performances. Vince Carter and Beno Udrih led the way for Memphis' bench with 9 points each.
Special praise for Quincy Pondexter as well. His stats from last night might not look all that impressive, but he had a great game defensively and also came up with a big 3 pointer.
Jordan Adams came off the bench for his NBA debut, recording 45 seconds of action.
