The Lionel Hollins faithful have been silenced, at least for the time being.
Dave Joerger just named Western Conference Coach of the Month for January. The Griz went 12-3 and played elite 'D'.....CA story coming
— Ronald Tillery (@CAGrizBeat) February 3, 2014
A well deserved honor for Coach Joerger, who has this Grizzlies team playing some of their best basketball since the season began. It isn't just January, though. Since December 21st, the Memphis Grizzlies are 16-5, with the league's 4th best defense during that time. Since the return of Marc Gasol against tonight's opponent, the Oklahoma City Thunder, 10 games ago the Grizzlies are 9-1.
The offense has been improved, the defense stout and Coach Joerger appears to have figured out some things the past month or so. Players win games, but coaches need to manage emotion, playing time, scheme, organization. and other aspects that players just cant handle. He is developing as an NBA head coach, much like his team is developing before our eyes.
Given the fact that his star Point Guard Mike Conley is out at least the next week due to an injured ankle, he may have an opportunity to earn another coach of the month honor if the Grizzlies can stay on this roll.
Congrats Coach, keep up the good work.
