Memphis Grizzlies work through the cold and defeat a hot Wizards team

Grizzlies 110 - Wizards 104

The Grizzlies entered a cold Washington DC to meet a hot Wizards team on a 6 game win streak.

First Quarter

Both teams shot very poorly to start the game, Grizzlies went 0 for 6 until Mike Conley hit a three . Wizards used their screen roll to perfection, with Marcin Gortat finishing strong in the paint repeatedly.

Conley finally seemed to have found his shot and ended the quarter as the teams lead scorer with 5 points. The quarter ended tied at 20 and Ed Davis made an early appearance.

Second Quarter

Grizzlies went into the paint more once Al Harrington and Drew Gooden were in off the bench and kept the Wizards to 33% shooting. The Grizzlies went on a 9-0 run to start the quarter. Tayshaun Prince played out of his mind after taking a hard fall to the floor in the first quarter and ended the half with 14 points and 3 rebounds.

The Wizards outside shooting was all Trevor Ariza who hit three out of four and was the only player keeping it close for a while.

Conley and Nick Calathes did a great job containing John Wall in the first quarter, but towards the end of the second, he was finally fed up enough and started getting some quick moves to the basket and ending the half with 6 points. The Wizards closed an 11 point lead down to 2, but ended the half with the Grizzlies up 50-45.

Moment of the Half:

There was a great move from Tayshaun Prince from behind the arc, passes to Kosta Koufos at the elbow, who seemed to do a no-look throw over his head to Zach Randolph who finished with a lay up.

Player of the Half: Tayshaun Prince was in it on 5 for 8 FG's and 50% behind the arc in one of those Tayshaun half's that just keep you scratching your head.

Third Quarter

More of the same from the Grizzlies defense, keeping the Wizards close at times, but leading them in the paint and on the fast break. Halfway through the quarter, Wizards were 2 of 7 shooting. The Grizzlies did not have the fire power to pull it away until a 17-2 run to end the last three-and-a-half minutes of the quarter that saw Tayshaun Prince continue his run and reach his season high score of 19 points.

Fourth Quarter

Wizards became more physical when Harrington returned, but the Grizzlies answered with Tony Allen keeping close to Bradley Beal and Nick Calathes holding his own against Andre Miller. And then finally the dam broke for the Wizards and they went on a 13-2 run, with 2 minutes left, bringing the lead down to 2. A shootout between John Wall and Mike Miller briefly happened, and then Otto Porter hit his 2nd three of the night to keep it to 2. But the Grit n Grind proved too much and kept the Wizards from getting their seventh win in a row.

Moment of the Game

The offense in the 2nd half wasn't anything great, but Mike Conley coming in to ice the lead hitting two free-throws with 8.5 seconds left took a breath of relief for the Grizzlies nation.

Player of the Game

Tayshaun Prince had his season high scoring game with 21 points on 8 for 11 shooting. That hasn't happened much this year.
