2014 FIBA World Cup: Spain Destroy Egypt 91-54

Serge Ibaka stole the show in his first appearance of the world cup to help lead Spain to a 37 point win.

Serge Ibaka top scored for Spain in this blow out win against the Egyptians. He had 18 points on 8-12 shooting, including 1 made 3 pointer. Ibaka would also grab 8 rebounds in what was a dominant performance in his first appearance of the tournament.

Special praise also goes to Ricky Rubio for a great passing performance which would see him finish the game with 7 assists. 3 of which led to fantastic finishes on ally oops. Spain finished the game with a total of 21 assists as a team.

Marc and Pau Gasol were a little quieter than last night. Pau would finish with 12 points on 5-8 shooting. Whilst Marc finished up with 8 points and 6 rebounds.

Rudy Fernandez would have another solid performance for Spain, he finished with 14 points, hitting 2-2 from behind the arc. As a team Spain would shoot just 28% from 3 point land.

Elgammal top scored for the Egyptians with 16 points, but was just 5-14 from the field.

Egypt, ranked 46th in the world, were making their first appearance at the world cup since 1994. But Spain wouldn't show them any mercy in the opening exchanges.They opened up with a 22-4 run in the first 7 minutes and 39 seconds, before Ibaka first entered the play to loud chants of 'IBAKA IBAKA'. These chants would only get louder as Rubio misses a 2 point attempt and Serge finishes with a great putback dunk.

Spain end the first quarter with a 26-10 lead with Egypt having 6 turnovers and no assists.

Elgammal opens the scoring in the second quarter by finishing a layup and getting fouled. He went on to make the free throw.

With 4 minutes gone in the quarter Llull would get his first 2 points of the world cup, finishing with a layup from a Calderon assist. Calderon would have to come out just seconds later after picking up his 3rd foul of the half.

The 'Ibaka' chants would then become deafening when he finishes a 4 on 2 fast break with a rim shattering dunk on which he almost hit his head on the rim.

Egypt finish the quarter with a 3 pointer right on the buzzer which sees them trailing 24-42 at the half.

Spain shoot just 38.5% from the field in the first half, but still found themselves with a commanding lead as Egypt shoot just 26.5%.

Serge Ibaka starts the 2nd half for Spain with Pau Gasol starting the half on the bench. Marc would open the quarter by turning the ball over, but would redeem himself seconds later with a great block under the rim. Rubio then feeds Ibaka who soars through the air for an amazing one handed jam.

Then 2 moments of pure genius from Ricky Rubio. Back to back ally oops. For the first he lobs the ball up to Ibaka who slams it down with two hands from way above the rim. Egypt then turn the ball over, Rubio lobs another pass up towards the rim where Rudy Fernandez finishes with a layup.

Navarro hits a 2 from the baseline which sees Spain on an 11-0 run, putting them up 53-24. Egypt desperately call for time out to try and stop the rot.

More great play from Rubio as he lobs the ball from inside his own half towards Navarro in the corner who feeds Marc Gasol down low in the paint to finish with the two handed dunk.

Egypt would finish the quarter on a 6-2 run with Spain up 64-37 entering the final quarter.

The Egyptians would open the 4th on a 5-0 run before another ally oop from Spain, this time Calderon finds Pau who finishes with the dunk.

Serge Ibaka would hit a 3 pointer for Spain with 1:20 left on the clock, before Abrines would get in on the act by hitting two 3 pointers of his own, with an Elgammal sandwiched inbetween which would give him the last points of his team high 16 points.
