Grizzlies Report Card
Grizzlies 95 - Pelicans 106
Coach Dave Joerger:
Zach Randolph was guarding Anthony Davis. Read that again. ZACH RANDOLPH, THE GUY WHO MISSED NINE GAMES WITH A KNEE INJURY, WAS GUARDING THE MOST ATHLETIC (AND MORE TALENTED) BIG MAN IN THE NBA. That's about all you need to know. I know his rotation was wonky because of the trade situation and he was doing his best, but that is unacceptable on so many levels. And yes this is the first "F" I've given this year, but it's not the only one in this Report Card.
Mike Conley: 33 MINS | 19 PTS | 7-18 FGS | 7 ASTS | -8
Mike was the only guy that could make a play after putting the ball on the floor. He was doing his best within an offense that only had 2 and a half effective players at a time. Then you get on the defensive end of the court and it's like Mike was lost. He wasn't fighting through screens, he was ball watching and over helping, and it lead to Jrue Holiday roasting him.
Courtney Lee: 28 MINS | 4 PTS | 2-7 FGS | 4 REBS | -13
The day we have all been dreading has arrived. The real Courtney Lee has shown up to play and it's killing the Grizzlies. We all knew that he wasn't going to shoot 50% from three for the whole season, but now he's struggling inside the arc as well. It wasn't just on offense where he struggled. His helping and constant ball watching killed the Grizzlies and got the Pelicans wide open threes so easily that it was like they were playing against a rec league team. It's gotten to the point where if you get Courtney Lee near the paint it's going to be an easy basket.
Tony Allen: 32 MINS | 6 PTS | 3-8 FGS | 3 STLS | -10
This is now getting ridiculous. I mean it was ridiculous before, but now it's just reached a whole new level. Tony Allen cannot make layups. I have never seen anything like it before. It has reached a critical point with Tony Allen. For someone that hangs their hat on their defense, Tony sure isn't playing any. He is one of the a main reasons the Grizzlies' perimeter defense has not been good. HIs constant gambling and tendency to help Marc Gasol guard people are good for a few steals a game, but he's not helping anyone by doing that. The only thing he is helping is his stat sheet.
Zach Randolph: 31 MINS | 11 PTS | 4-9 FGS | 11 REBS | -9
ZACH RANDOLPH IS BACK AND WAS READY FOR ACTION! Z-Bo looked like a guy that missed nine games and had to come back against Anthony Davis. He was battling and showed flashes, but he isn't completely himself yet.
Marc Gasol: 29 MINS | 19 PTS | 8-13 FGS | 4 REBS | -15
Marc was tearing it up on offense, then had to go on the other end of the court and try and play defense on the myriad of open Pelicans players running about the court. He was put into foul trouble because the Pelicans guards were waltzing by their defenders right into him. It's like the guards have gotten too used to him being back there and now think he is Hakeem Olajuwon. One guy can only do so much on both ends of the floor.
Kosta Koufos: 19 MINS | 9 PTS | 3-4 FGS | 7 REBS| +4
Kosta only played 19 minutes because Marc Gasol was in foul trouble, which is unfortunate because he was good in the 19 minutes he played. He was scoring and rebounding for a second unit that looked more lost than the people in "Lost".
Beno Udrih: 15 MINS | 9 PTS | 4-7 FGS | 1 AST | -3
Beno was the only guard besides Mike Conley that was capable of putting shots into the basket, but he only played 15 minutes because he is a revolving door on defense.
Tayshaun Prince: 25 MINS | 6 PTS | 2-7 FGS | 3 REBS | -10
Tayshaun is most likely headed out due to a trade, so let's all try to forget this game and focus on all the good he did in his time here. I am kind of hoping he plays on Sunday to redeem himself.
Vince Carter: 18 MINS | 9 PTS| 3-9 FGS | 2 REBS | +0
Wait....if you listen closely you can still hear the faint sounds of Vince Carter clanging another deep three off the rims in New Orleans.
Jon Leuer: 8 MINS | 0 PTS | 0-0 FGS| 4 REBS| +0
Grade: He's Lucky He's Not Eligible
Nick Calathes: 2 MINS | 0 PTS | 0-0 FGS | 1 AST | +0
Grade: Not Eligible
Quincy Pondexter: Probably Traded
Jarnell Stokes: DNP Coach's Decision
Jordan Adams: Inactive For Some Reason
(Ed. Note: With Z-Bo's return from injury, we had to inactivate at least one player, but why we chose to perma-sit Jordan Adams over The Ghost of QPon is anyone's guess. - KY)
