Grizzlies Report Card
Grizzlies 92 - Raptors 86
Coach Dave Joerger:
Coach Joerger moved Jeff Green into the starting lineup and it didn't work out well. The Grizzlies offense looked dead and the defense was lackadaisical so Joerger used Calathes as a spark plug and FINALLY trusted Koufos to spell Gasol for a long stretch. It got everything going and the starters finished it.
Mike Conley: 29 MINS | 12 PTS | 4-11 FGS | 4 REBS | +7
I wouldn't mind Mike sitting out the next few games just to make sure those ankles are right. He doesn't look like himself right now. With Philadelphia and Orlando up next he should be able to sit out and the Grizzlies won't be effected.
Tony Allen: 26 MINS | 6 PTS | 3-6 FGS | 4 REBS | -5
Tony just can't put together a full good game anymore. Rebounding was the only place he was consistent. I think his defense on Kyle Lowry was good for some stretches, but he continues to gamble on defense. Continuity will have to come or Tony may be headed to the bench. Killing spacing was too much of a problem when he was on the floor with Jeff Green so I think Tony may be replaced by Courtney Lee.
Jeff Green: 26 MINS | 6 PTS | 2-6 FGS | 2 REBS | +5
His first bad game in a Grizzlies uniform coincided with his first start in a Grizzlies uniform. Weird. Oh before I forget, Jeff Green's jumpshot is missing. If anyone finds it he's asking you to send it to him via carrier pigeon.
Zach Randolph: 36 MINS | 19 PTS | 8-14 FGS | 13 REBS | +4
The length of the Raptors' front line seemed to bother Z-Bo in the first three quarters. Then the fourth quarter came around and he took over. The Grizzlies needed someone to shut the door on the Drakes and Z-Bo stepped up big time. It was like the old Randolph. He was just bullying everyone.
Marc Gasol: 35 MINS | 26 PTS | 9-16 FGS | 7 REBS | 5 ASTS | +16
This is becoming the norm for Gasol. Somewhere between 20-28 points with a bunch of free throw attempts. He would have had double digit rebounds if it weren't for the foul trouble he was in throughout the second half. Maybe he could have finally gotten a triple double, but I digress. Only complaint is the following: STOP FADING AWAY WHEN SMALLER DEFENDERS ARE ON YOU. THAT MAKES NO SENSE.
Kosta Koufos: 16 MINS | 8 PTS | 2-3 FGS | 5 REBS| -8
Marc Gasol racked up his fourth foul midway through the third quarter and the Grizz needed someone to provide some defense. I was expecting Coach Joerger to roll with Gasol, but he finally put Koufos in for an extended run and HE WAS GREAT. He did everything he was asked for and more. The defense could easily have fallen apart, but Koufos was able to keep it together.
Nick Calathes: 13 MIN | 6 PTS | 3-5 FGS | 2 ASTS | +8
Besides airballing a layup (I think he was fouled... I hope he was fouled), he was great in small minutes. He played in multi-point guard lineups next to Beno Udrih and Courtney Lee. He did a good job of distributing and disrupting ball handlers on defense.
Beno Udrih: 19 MIN | 6 PTS | 2-5 FGS | 1 REB | +4
Beno may have gotten too used to playing big minutes. I know he hurt his knee so maybe that's why he was settling for more jumpers and not driving to the basket more.
Courtney Lee: 29 MINS | 1 PTS | 0-3 FGS | 5 REBS | -3
Well since he wasn't playing defense or shooting the ball, those five rebounds were the best thing he did against the Raptors.
Vince Carter: 5 MINS | 0 PTS| 0-2 FGS | 2 ASTS | -3
Grade: Not Eligible
Jon Leuer: 6 MINS | 2 PTS | 1-3 FGS| 1 REB | +5
