Report Card: Memphis Grizzlies vs. LA Lakers

The Grizzlies almost lost to the Lakers. Yes, the Lakers.

Grizzlies Report Card

Grizzlies 109 - Lakers 106

Coach Dave Joerger:

Grade: B

Coach Joerger has struggled to find a replacement for Z-Bo in his absence, but he took a chance on Tayshaun at the four and it worked.

Mike Conley: 32 MINS | 19 PTS | 5-13 FGS | 9 ASTS | 6 REBS | +4

Grade: A

Mike Conley was the best player on the floor at times against the Lakers. Every time the Grizzlies needed someone to make a play Mike was there. Mike was hitting threes, floaters in the lane and getting the Lakers bigs into foul trouble. The Lakers had no answer for him.

Courtney Lee: 30 MINS | 14 PTS | 5-9 FGS | 1 REB | +4

Grade: B+

This was the best shooting game CLee has had in a bit. He was shooting and going to the basket with confidence, which has been lacking for a bit. His defense on the variety of guys the Lakers had to offer was great and he took care of the ball. This was a great game from CLee.

Tony Allen: 16 MINS | 5 PTS | 2-9 FGS | 5 REBS | +0

Grade: ToT

Tony gets a "Trick or Treat" for his performance against the Lakers. Yes, I have finally found the appropriate grade for TA when he has one of those games where he makes me want to rip my hair out. He shot nine times in 16 minutes and only hit two. Most of those were near or under the rim. That's not good.

Jon Leuer: 16 MINS | 6 PTS | 3-5 FGS | 5 REBS | -5

Grade: D

If you were (like me) a supporter of the Grizzlies letting Ed Davis go and stick with Jon Leuer you weren't looking good tonight. Ed Davis destroyed Jon Leuer. It was bad. It went so poorly for Leuer that Coach Joerger rolled with Tayshaun Prince at the four.

Marc Gasol: 35 MINS | 18 PTS | 7-13 FGS | 10 REBS | 5 ASTS | 2 BLKS | +4

Grade: A

One of these days he's going to end up with a triple-double, but tonight wasn't that night. He was hitting guys with good passes for open shots, but they just weren't falling. Jordan Hill, Carlos Boozer and Ed Davis aren't going to stop me, you or Marc Gasol so he had a great night. Missing six free throws is unlike Marc, but I don't think the three stitches or the flu helped any there.

Tayshaun Prince: 29 MIN | 12 PTS | 4-7 FGS | 4 REBS | +8

Grade: B+

Prince came in and was the X-Factor for the Grizzlies. He was hitting his jumpshot and drove to the basket with reckless abandon. Unfortunately, Tayshaun hurt his knee in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter. Hopefully he is ok because I think he may be taking minutes from Jon Leuer soon.

Quincy Pondexter: 26 MINS | 8 PTS | 4-7 FGS | 3 REBS | +1

Grade: B

I think Quincy Pondexter has figured out what he needs to do in a basketball game to be successful. He's playing as hard as he possibly can on both ends of the floor and it's paying off. Instead of dribbling with reckless abandon he is being decisive with the ball. Instead of pump faking and being indecisive he was shooting when he had the chance. The most surprising part was that he did a great job of guarding Kobe (a better job than Tony Allen) and should have been guarding him in the last few possessions.

Kosta Koufos: 19 MINS | 9 PTS | 4-7 FGS | 8 REBS | +5

Grade: B

Kosta had to play a bit more against the Lakers after Gasol took a blow to the face and played well. He rebounded the ball well when paired with Gasol later in the game and made a great impact on offense.

Beno Udrih: 16 MIN | 16 PTS | 6-8 FGS | 3 ASTS | -1

Grade: B

Scoring one point for every minute you are in is pretty good. He was hitting the leaning jumpshot and once he got going he couldn't be stopped. The "defense" he was playing on Jeremy Lin was less than ideal, but he made up for it on the offensive end.

Vince Carter: 15 MINS | 0 PTS| 0-5 FGS | 4 ASTS | -2

Grade: C-

The Vince Carter that can't hit threes has returned. I like that as he starts missing threes Vince starts shedding accessories. Tonight it was the headband. Like that was going to help the ball go in the basket. He did a great of moving the ball and creating for others so he wasn't a complete disaster.

Jarnell Stokes: 6 MINS | 2 PTS | 1-1 FGS| 1 REBS| -3

Grade: Not Eligible
