The Day Basketball Died

Disclaimer: This whole thing isn't going to rhyme and you guys are going to have to live with that.

Disclaimer 2: I am not declaring the season over. This is a fun joke.

A long, long time ago

I can still remember basketball used to make me smile

And I knew if I had my chance

That I could make all those fans dance

And maybe they'd be happy for a while

But November made me shiver

With every game I'd tune into

Bad news on the screen

I couldn't take one more look

_______________________________________________

I can't remember if I cried

When I saw Z-Bo's old broke hide

But something touched me deep inside

The day basketball died

_______________________________________________

So bye bye Grizzlies basketball guys

Jeff drove the ball to the basket but he shot it too high

And them good ole boys were tossin' bricks at the sky

Singin' this'll be the day playoff hopes die

This'll be the day playoff hopes die

Did you write the book of grind

And do you have faith in Dave above

If Chris Wallace tells you so?

Now do you believe in grit and grind?

Can basketball save your mortal soul?

And can you teach me how to play real slow?

Now I know that you're in love with them

Because I saw you shootin' in the gym

You kicked off your basketball shoes

Man, I dig those Beale Street Blues

I was a lonely teenage grindin' grizz

With some blue Jordans in the pickup gym

But I knew I was out of luck

The day basketball died

I started singin' bye bye Grizzlies basketball guys

Jeff drove the ball to the basket but he shot it too high

And them good ole boys were tossin' bricks at the sky

Singin' this'll be the day playoff hopes die

This'll be the day playoff hopes die

I'm stopping right here because this song is EIGHT MINUTES LONG and it's 12:30 in the morning. Oh well.
