D-League Update: Russ Smith leads the Iowa Energy to three wins

New, comment

Turbulent (something weird happened between teammates Lucas and Stokes) but happy week overall for the Jordan-less Iowa Energy, winning three of three games and climbing up in the D-League standings.

January 27, from Des Moines.

Starters for the Energy: Kalin Lucas, Russ Smith, Damien Wilkins, Larry Owens and Ferrakohn Hall.

During the game, something weird happened in the Energy bench as Stokes and Lucas had for each other something more than just words. See more about it here.

But this also happened: #Russdiculous part I:

Best Vipers players in the game: Glen Rice with 32 points and 11 rebounds, and Akil Mitchell with 17 points and 16 rebounds.

And best Energy players: Russ Smith with 30 points (11 of 22 shooting) in 38 minutes, Jarnell Stokes with 16 points (6 of 9 shooting) and 8 rebounds in 20 minutes of action, Damien Wilkins with 24 points and 12 rebounds and Kalin Lucas with 18 points and 5 assists.

January 29, on the road.

Starters for the Energy: Diante Garrett, Chris Allen, Damien Wilkins, Larry Owens and Ferrakohn Hall.

The Energy kept the good momentum on the road against the Mad Ants and got their fourth win in a row.

Of course #Russdiculous part II happened:

Best Mad Ants player in the game: Andre Emmett with 25 points.

And best Energy players: Diante Garrett with 23 points (4 of 6 shooting from beyond the arc), Russ Smith with 17 points (6 of 14 shooting) in 37 minutes, and Ferrakohn Hall with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds.

January 31, from Des Moines.

Energy's starters were Diante Garrett, Chris Allen, Damien Wilkins, Larry Owens and Ferrakohn Hall.

What a day for Oklahoma: Grizzlies versus Thunder and Energy versus Blue.

No Famous (injured), and no Lucas nor Stokes (WrestleMania hangover) for the Energy.

The Energy started the game defensively strong, holding the Blue to score only 12 points in the period, and getting an early 10-point lead in the game.

In the second quarter Blue's offense began catching a good flow as they won the partial 29-21.

With six minutes to play in the third quarter the Blue got a 12-point lead, but then the Energy got back into the game improving their defense and with the good performances of Chris Allen and the Grizzlies rookie Russ Smith.

The last quarter was 31-30 for the Blue, but the former Cyclone Diante Garrett guided the Iowa Energy to their fifth straight victory with clutch points in the last minutes of the game.

Best Blue players in the game: John Huestis with 24 points, Semaj Christon with 23 points, and Marquis Teague with 21 points.

And best Energy players: Chris Allen with 24 points, Russ Smith with 22 points (7 of 14 shooting) in 28 of action and Diante Garrett with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists.

NEXT D-LEAGUE GAME: Iowa Energy (15-12) will play against the Maine Red Claws (18-9) on February 5.
