Iowa Energy Update: Damien Wilkins is a D-League All-Star

One remarkable win and one heartbroken loss for the Energy this week, and also some updates about Tyrus Thomas, Damien Wilkins and Jordan Adams before the NBA D-League All-Star begins

➭ UPDATE ON FEBRUARY 3.

Iowa Energy re-acquire Tyrus Thomas.

After earning a Call-Up by the Memphis Grizzlies (it's always good to try out and give a player like Thomas the opportunity to shine in the big league and keep him tuned), the former Bulls returns to Iowa.

Tyrus played two games for the Grizzlies and averaged 2.0 points and 0.5 assists in 3.3 minutes. He seemed really engaged with the team (but hey, who wouldn't?).

This picture is probably his highlight as a Grizzly, but anyway, he made his Grizzlies debut on January 27 against the Dallas Mavericks and also played against the Denver Nuggets, scoring 4 points in 5 minutes.

The ninth annual NBA D-League All-Star Game will be played at the Barclays Center in Brooklin, NY on February 15.

Wilkins (6-6, 225) has played in 27 games (always as a starter) for the Energy this season. He averages 20.9 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists. Wilkins is currently eighth in the league in scoring average and second in minutes played per game at 38.8. The former Bulldog was named NBA D-League Performer of the Week for games played on November 14 through November 23.

Nineteen players more were selected to play the NBA D-League All-Star Game, which will tip off at 2:30 p.m. ET at Barclays Center in Brooklin, and it will air live on NBA TV.

These are the rosters:

➭ GAME ON FEBRUARY 5, ON THE ROAD AGAINST THE MAINE RED CLAWS.

Starters for the Energy: Russ Smith, Diante Garrett, Damien Wilkins, Larry Owens and Ferrakohn Hall.

It was a damn good game where the 16-12 Iowa Energy won the 18-10 Maine Red Claws.

Energy started the game in a good way, leading 10-2 with 4 minutes played. Garrett running the floor, Hall dunking... 34-17 in the quarter for the Iowa, with Wilkins showing people at Portland Expo Building why he should be a D-League All-Star (14 points in the period).

In the second quarter Stokes had a couple of moments where he seemed a mini-ZBo and no Red Claw could stop him in the paint from getting the rebound and adding some points. 9 minutes to play and the Energy was 39-22.

After the break, Maine's defense got stronger and they were able to get back into the game cutting the 16-points lead to only two points (70-68) before the quarter finished. Then the Energy was lucky that in the final minute a couple fast breaks gave them a 7-points lead again going 77-70 into the final period.

Coming off the bench, Allen scored 11 in the last 12 minutes and Energy maintained the lead, getting another precious win, the 16th of the season.

Best player for Maine was Phil Pressey with 34 points (11 of 25 shooting), 7 rebounds and 9 assists.

And best Energy players: Damien Wilkins with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists, Chris Allen with 21 points (3 of 3 from beyond the arc), and Jarnell Stokes with a double-double (10 points and 12 rebounds in 32 minutes of action).

➭ UPDATE ON FEBRUARY 7.

Memphis Grizzlies re-assign Jordan Adams to the Iowa Energy. This is the fifth assignment to Iowa for him this season.

He has averaged 19.5 points on 0.483 shooting and 7.0 rebounds in 32.9 minutes in 10 games for Iowa, with eight double-digit and five 20-plus scoring efforts.

➭ GAME ON FEBRUARY 7, IN DES MOINES AGAINST THE FORT WAYNE MAD ANTS.

Starters for the Energy: Diante Garrett, Kalin Lucas, Damien Wilkins, Larry Owens and Ferrakohn Hall.

OK, the last quarter was an absolute mess for the Energy (remember that before this game they were the hottest team in the D-League), and it was a heartbroken loss at home, but anyway let's keep thinking about something positive. Watch this Grizzlies & Energy mates! Stokes is too strong!

29-29 at the end of the first quarter, and then Energy increased the intensity on defense, giving some D-League Grit & Grind to the Mad Ants in the two following quarters to get a 24-points lead going into the last quarter.

What happened next I have no idea what it was, because a 39-10 partial in the last 12 minutes is not admissible at all, right?

Best players for Maine were Gary Talton with 30 points (11 of 16 shooting) and Marcus Hall with 16 points (+30 with him on the court for the Mad Ants).

And best Energy players: Jarnell Stokes with another double-double (14 points and 16 rebounds in 31 minutes of action) and Diante Garrett with 17 points. The pity was that Jordan Adams' shot was not falling (2 of 11 shooting for just 4 points) even if he still contributed with 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals in 22 minutes played, and that #Russdiculous (only 10 points) wasn't phenomenal like he was during games last week.

➭ UPDATE ON FEBRUARY 8.

Memphis Grizzlies recall (AGAIN) Jordan Adams from the Iowa Energy. Safe travels, Jordan!

➭ NEXT ENERGY GAME

February 10, at home against the Sioux Falls Skyforce. GO ENERGY!

➭ AND...

Be tuned for the D-League All-Star Game on February 15. Seriously, forget about the All-Star (OK, watch Marc Gasol a little bit, and then forget about it) and watch the prospects and futures of the underdog league.
