Memphis Grizzlies Report Card

Grizzlies 92 - Nuggets 81

Dave Joerger:

Grade: B

Coach identified Denver's weakness prior to the game and sent his team out to attack the paint and get to the basket, unfortunately for him his team were having trouble finishing the chances they were creating. Coach also called a couple of timely time outs during the game. The first of which was designed to get an easy look for Gasol in the second quarter after he'd missed a number of mid-range jump shots. The play resulted in Gasol getting a free drive to the basket where he finished with an emphatic dunk. The second came during the fourth quarter after a 10-0 run from the Nuggets had tied the game. The Grizzlies came out of the time out and went on a 7-0 run after some great passing resulted in three easy buckets. I would have liked to have seen Joerger try and rest his starters more during the game, with Gasol, Randolph and Lee all playing at least 33 minutes in the game. Hopefully they will still have enough left in the tank to defeat Detroit.

Beno Udrih: 24 MINS | 9 PTS | 4-8 FG | 2 ASTS | 5 REBS | +15

Grade: B-

Beno once again deputised for the injured Mike Conley and once again didn't let anybody down in the game. Udrih struggled on defense as Jameer Nelson finished the game with a season high 24 points. But we know what we're getting with Beno and defense isn't his strongest point. He had his mid-range game going once again as he hit his first 3 shots of the night. With one of them being a fantastic leaning three point attempt as the shot clock expired. Udrih had a great night on the boards, pulling in 5 rebounds, with 2 coming on the offensive glass.

Courtney Lee: 33 MINS | 9 PTS | 3-7 FG | 1-2 3PT | 5 REBS | +8

Grade: B-

After hitting two early mid-range jumpers Courtney was quiet on offense through the rest of the game. He showed up again during the 7-0 run in the fourth quarter as he hit a corner three off the nice feed from Tony Allen. He had a good game covering Randy Foye, holding him to 2-6 from behind the three point line. The Grizzlies guards had a good game on the glass and Lee was no different as he helped himself to 5 boards.

Jeff Green: 17 MNS | 6 PTS | 2-4 FG | 2 REBS | -11

Grade: C

Jeff had to leave the game early in the first quarter as he picked up two quick fouls. Tony Allen came into the game in place of Jeff, this resulted in Green spending most of the game on the bench as Tony put in a fantastic performance. Jeff came back into the game in the second quarter and made both of his field goals in that period. Look for Green to play more minutes against the Pistons after getting a nice rest during this game.

Zach Randolph: 38 MINS | 21 PTS | 9-20 FG | 16 REBS | 2 ASTS | 2 STLS | +16

Grade: A

ZBo was immense throughout the whole game as he finished with his 16th 20+10 game of the season. He almost had his double double in the first quarter as he finished the period with 8 points and 9 rebounds. He did a great job boxing out for rebounds on both ends of the floor as he grabbed 8 on the offensive glass and 8 on the defensive glass. He was his usual strong, bullying self as he destroyed Hickson and Arthur as he went to work in the paint to help himself to his 21 points. I'm sure Coach wouldn't have wanted Zach playing this many minutes, but he had little choice as the offense fell to bits without Zach on the floor. Coach tried to get ZBo some rest during the fourth quarter as Memphis led the game by 10. With Zach off the floor Denver went on a 10-0 run to tie the game. Zach came back in and the Grizzlies went on to win the game.

Marc Gasol: 33 MINS | 14 PTS | 4-13 FG | 3 ASTS | 8 REBS | 2 STLS | 3 BLKS | +2

Grade: C+

I'm not sure what was wrong with Marc in this game, but to me his body language just didn't look right through the whole game. He struggled with his shot all night and his usual pinpoint passing was off. He was better on the defensive end as he recorded 3 blocks and held Nurkic to just 2 points in the game. Following Nurkic's performance in the blowout in Denver, Gasol has owned him, as he's held Nurkic to just 2 points through the two games in Memphis. Perhaps Nurkic will think again before trying to get inside Gasol's head in future match ups. Marc showed up down the stretch as he hit some important free throws as the Grizzlies pulled out the win.

Bench

Tony Allen: 35 MINS | 14 PTS | 5-10 FG | 2 ASTS | 9 REBS | +16

Grade: A+

Tony was amazing in the game and was the catalyst to this victory. He was fantastic on the offensive end as he cut along the baseline unnoticed numerous times, his team mates kept finding him open under the basket for easy layups. He made all of his 4 free throw attempts in the game. He was harassing his man on the defensive end and refused to give up on any rebounds. Twice late in the game he ripped rebounds right out of the arms of Nuggets players as they fought to get back into the game. His dunking was also fantastic. With his final dunk putting the gloss on the win as he finished with a breakaway slam which he threw down with authority with 10 seconds left in the game.

Nick Calathes: 24 MINS | 12 PTS | 5-11 FG | 3 ASTS | 5 REBS | 2 STLS | +/-0

Grade: B

Once again Nick had a great all around game. He did a good job attacking the paint and finished just 1 point behind his season high (13). Along with the rest of the guards Nick had a nice game on the boards (5). He finished with multiple steals for the first time in 6 games. He also did a nice job facilitating for his team mates on a night where the Grizzlies struggled in the assist column.

Kosta Koufos: 13 MINS | 4 PTS | 1-3 FG | 1 AST | 5 REBS | 1 BLK | +9

Grade: C+

KK did what was required of him in his limited minutes. He grabbed rebounds and did a nice job protecting the rim. He didn't have much time to get his shot going, though he did knock down 2-2 at the free throw line.

Vince Carter: 19 MINS | 3 PTS | 0-4 FG | 1 AST | 2 REBS | 1 BLK | +/-0

Grade: C

VC showed nice energy off the bench and as we've come to expect he was willing to put shots up, unfortunately he couldn't get his shot to fall last night after some decent shooting performances following his return from injury.

Russ Smith: 8 SECS | +/-0

Grade: Ineligible

Jordan Adams: DNP CD

JaMychal Green: DNP CD

Jon Leuer: DNP CD
