The New York Knicks were on a three game losing streak coming into tonight's game. Their last game was a spoiler against the San Antonio Spurs, and they hoped to spoil Memphis' groove. However, the Grizzlies made sure to not repeat their performance in Detroit last week.
From the start, the Grizzlies jumped out with a 16-7 lead about halfway through the first quarter:
Going into the second, Memphis led 30-20 after a buzzer beater three pointer from Nick Calathes. The second quarter went much like Saturday's second quarter for the Grizz. Memphis struggled to score for much of the second, and they found themselves with only a two point lead going into halftime.
Lately, the Grizzlies have been known for playing down to their opponent. But Memphis made sure to put the Knicks in their place as they picked up the pace toward the end of the third quarter. They led by 13 heading into the final stretch, and the Smash Brothers were a big part of the third quarter. Marc Gasol had 21 points, while Zach Randolph had 23 himself:
After two higher-scoring performances, Mike Conley only had 7 points tonight. However, he only played 26 minutes and did a good job of being the floor general and was able to get his teammates involved.
For the New York Knicks, Andrea Bargnani had 18 points to go along with 4 assists, while Langston Galloway had 19 and 5 assists. New York was given a glimmer of hope as they captured a one point lead early in the third, but they were unable to expand their lead and Memphis overtook them.
In the fourth quarter, Vince Carter topped off a solid night as he had 4 three pointers in the game. Kosta Koufos also had a double digit scoring night with 10 points.
The Grizzlies are on an impressive three game winning streak, and now face huge two game home stand. Tonight, Memphis clinched its playoff berth, and now the Grizz will try to clench the second seed in the competitive Western Conference as the playoffs approach.
