Energy Update: Garrett & Famous' Goodbye And Some More Russdiculousness

Two wins after three consecutive losses, the baby Grizzlies Stokes and Russ back in Iowa, a farewell to Garrett and Famous, and the tremendous first games by Reed as Energy player.

➭ GAME ON FEBRUARY 19, ON THE ROAD AGAINST THE BAKERSFIELD JAM.

Starters for the Energy: Kalin Lucas, Diante Garrett, Damien Wilkins, Larry Owens, and Ferrakohn Hall.

The best player for the Jam was Jerel McNeal with 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists, but he performed a super strange shooting performance of 3 of 19 from the field and 15 of 17 free throws. Earl Barron wasn't bad either with a double-double of 20 points and 15 rebounds.

And the best Energy players: Kalin Lucas with 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 8 assists, Larry Owens hitting 6 three-pointers, and Chris Allen coming off the bench with 22 points.

➭ GAME ON FEBRUARY 21, ON THE ROAD AGAINST THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY VIPERS.

Starters for the Energy: Kalin Lucas, Diante Garrett, Damien Wilkins, Larry Owens, and Ferrakohn Hall.

A buzzer-beater again demolished the Energy in the last moments of the game. This time, Tony Bishop was the perfect Energy killer and secured the win for the sneaky Vipers (18-15) over the Iowa Energy (16-16).

The story of the game was that even though the Energy played good basketball far away from home, Jaron Johnson, Tony Bishop himself, and Clint Capela were too much for the Energy, scoring 23 points each.

Damien Wilkins was all over the place being the best Energy player. He scored 32 points, caught 7 rebounds, and dished 5 assists. And Kalin Lucas performed well, too, finishing the game with 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists.

➭ ENERGY UPDATE ON FEBRUARY 22.

Des Moines, Iowa. Memphis Grizzlies re-assign forward-center Jarnell Stokes and guard Russ Smith to the Iowa Energy.

This will be the fifth assignment to Iowa for Stokes and the second for Smith, who had three more D-League assignments earlier in the season with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

Jarnell Stokes (6-9, 263) has averaged 12.5 points on 61.6% shooting and 9.1 rebounds in 26.4 minutes in 10 games (one start) for the Energy. The 21-year-old posted 12.3 points on 63.3% shooting with 9.9 rebounds and 1.14 blocks in 26.9 minutes in seven games in his previous assignment to Iowa (January 20 - February 10). The Memphis native has recorded 2.1 points and 1.3 rebounds in 5.5 minutes in 17 games (four starts) during his rookie season for the Grizzlies.

Russ Smith (6-0, 165) has averaged 16.9 points on 51.8% shooting with 3.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 27.5 minutes in 16 games (three starts) for the Energy and the Mad Ants. The 24-year-old posted 18.2 points on 50% shooting with 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 29.4 minutes in nine games (three starts) in his previous assignment to Iowa (January 20 - February 10). The New York City native has recorded 1.4 points and 0.4 assists in 4.7 minutes in seven games in his rookie season with Memphis and the New Orleans Pelicans.

➭ ENERGY UPDATE ON FEBRUARY 24.

Des Moines, Iowa. Energy acquire Legends' 2015 third round draft pick. In exchange, the Energy send Jarrid Famous to the Texas Legends.

Famous (6-11, 240) averaged 12.4 points, 15.9 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 32.7 minutes in ten games (seven starts) for the Energy.

There was a time where the Energy had the best center in the whole D-League on their lineup, and every rebound was Whiteside's property. Then Whiteside was on his way to Miami to revolutionize the NBA in a couple weeks of WhitesidITY, so the Energy did nothing but struggle in the paint while losing game after game with Henderson-Niles as the starting center of the team (no disrespect implied). That was the moment when Famous arrived to Iowa and he did really well. Damn! He can catch rebounds. Injuries made him suffer for a bit, but overall the Texas Legends get in this deal a hell of a player. See?

Best of luck out there, Jarrid, and never stop believing!

➭ GAME ON FEBRUARY 25, AT HOME AGAINST THE ERIE BAYHAWKS.

Starters for the Energy: Kalin Lucas, Russ Smith, Damien Wilkins, Jarnell Stokes, and Ferrakohn Hall.

Two good old Grizzlies friends executed the Energy this time: Seth Curry (29 points, including 6 three-pointers and 10 of 15 shooting from the field) and Austin "I'm really dangerous in the D-League" Daye (27 points coming off the bench, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists), who sent the match to overtime with a key bucket.

For the Energy, Stokes and Russ were back in Des Moines ready to score some buckets. And they sure did. Jarnell Stokes turned on the BEAST mode as he scored 27 points with an incredible efficiency (10 of 12 shooting).

And Russ Smith was not very #Russdiculous in scoring duties but he still did some damage on the court with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists, and 7 steals.

➭ ENERGY UPDATE ON FEBRUARY 26.

Des Moines, Iowa. Energy acquire forward-center Willie Reed (not a bad way to replace Jarrid Famous, huh?) from Grand Rapids Drive. In exchange, the Energy trade Diante Garrett (you'll be missed, man) to the Grand Rapids Drive.

Reed (6-10, 220) has averaged 14.6 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks in 31.2 minutes in 30 games (21 starts) for Grand Rapids this season. He holds career NBA D-League averages of 14.7 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks in 128 games (85 starts).

Garrett (6-4, 190) has averaged 14.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in 37.0 minutes in 30 games (29 starts) for the Energy.

He hasn't had the flashiest season but he's been steady, always there when the team needed him. One of the players averaging the most minutes per game of the whole D-League, deserved All-Star recognition, and performing well night after night as the generous floor general the Energy asked for (no disrespect, Lucas, but man, you had some selfish games where you only cared about your buckets). Best of luck in Grand Rapids, Diante, and keep shooting!

➭ GAME ON FEBRUARY 27, AT HOME AGAINST THE SIOUX FALLS SKYFORCE.

Starters for the Energy: Kalin Lucas, Russ Smith, Larry Owens, Jarnell Stokes, and Willie Reed.

Energy fans didn't have time to miss their dear Diante Garrett as Willie Reed showed up to do some work and amazed the whole attendance at Wells Fargo Arena with 31 points (15 of 16 shooting!!!) and 7 rebounds.

Kalin Lucas kept commanding the Energy offense with 22 points and 4 assists, and the GrizzErgy players Russ Smith (19 points, 7 rebounds, 11 assists, and 5 steals -WOW!!!) and Jarnell Stokes (17 points and 9 rebounds) continued playing really good minutes to get the so-much-needed win for the Iowa team.

And best players for the Skyforce were Byron Mullens with 29 points (including 7 three-pointers) and Andre Dawkins with 21 points.

➭ GAME ON FEBRUARY 28, ON THE ROAD AGAINST THE ERIE BAYHAWKS.

Starters for the Energy: Kalin Lucas, Russ Smith, Larry Owens, Jarnell Stokes, and Willie Reed.

In Erie, Pennsylvania, the Erie Bayhawks (15-22) were defeated by the Iowa Energy (18-17) in a game that can be recapped in two words with capital letters: RUSS & REED (or REED & RUSS, if it sounds better to you). And that was all that just happened.

Russ Smith / #Russdiculous / #Russanity scored 31 points!

And Willie Reed, the newest Energy player, got a tremendous double-double of 27 points and 20 rebounds.

➭ NEXT IOWA ENERGY GAME

March 4, on the road against the Grand Rapids Drive. GO ENERGY!
