Russ Smith is pretty awesome, should have a bright future with the Grizzlies

The Grizzlies' midseason trade acquisition has a lot of upside going for him.

If you haven't been keeping up with the Memphis Grizzlies D-League compatriots in Iowa, well, shame on you. Marco Wallace does a great job of keeping us updated on the Iowa Energy every couple of weeks. Check it out!

But if you're not up to date on the Energy, you might not know that Russ Smith has been various shades of Russdiculous (Ed. Note: ...50 Shades of Russdiculous? -KY) in his time in the NBA D-League since being acquired by Memphis in the Jeff Green trade. This guy looks like a legit baller...maybe even a bawler.

His D-League stats on the season:

Minutes PTS FG% 3FG% FT% REB AST STL
30.4 18.5 51.00% 35.80% 67.50% 4.1 4.4 2.2

And to be fair, his free throw shooting has improved to 78% since coming to the Grizzlies and playing for the Energy, which is good to see considering he's quite talented at getting to the rim and drawing contact. While not the sharpest of shooters, Russ can get pretty toasty from long range when he's feeling it. He's gone 5/10 and 6/10 respectively in his last two games -- going for 31 points and 38 points in the process.

The man really filled up the highlight reel in February:

Including two of my favorites...

The Fiddle'n'Diddle, as the announcer called it:

Russ Smith Fiddle'n'Diddle

And a really nice hammer down from a 6'0 guy:

And aside from his obvious basketball skills, he's just a really nice, interesting dude. Hit him up on Twitter and he'll definitely give you a follow.

I mean, his handle is a nod to Chris Tucker's greatest character in one of my favorite movies of all time.
