Grizzlies Report Card
Grizzlies 97 - Lakers 90
Coach Dave Joerger:
I was very impressed with what Coach Joerger did with the rotation in the first half. Subbing Jeff Green out early for Tony Allen then rolling with the Calathes/Carter combo for a bit was a great idea. Playing Green at the backup four to shorten the rotation is a move I've been waiting on, but I thought it would result in less ZBo minutes, not nearly 40 in a game against the Lakers facing a back-to-back. Now, Gasol and ZBo have to prepare for Anthony Davis and Co. on limited rest.
Mike Conley: 34 MINS | 12 PTS | 4-9 FGS | 6 ASTS | +15
Mike Conley is hurt and it's showing. He's having trouble maintaining a defensive stance because his ankles are so hurt. It looked like Jeremy Lin (JEREMY LIN) had him on ice skates out there. Then rookie Jordan Clarkson lit Conley up for 25 points and 6 assists. He still came up clutch near the end with a steal and a few free throws.
Courtney Lee: 27 MINS | 2 PTS | 1-6 FGS | 4 ASTS | +10
CLee's first few shots didn't fall, so he lost confidence for the rest of the game. He started hitting the open man and racked up 4 assists, while also playing some good defense. He struggled a bit with Wayne Ellington, but he was hitting some crazy shots, so Courtney gets a bit of a pass there.
Jeff Green: 32 MINS | 16 PTS | 3-12 FGS | 5 REBS | +10
Jeff Green did a good job of rebounding in the first half and got to the line 10 times, which was huge in the fourth quarter. But I still think he's not really trying on defense at times (he's ball watching and not even pretending to try in transition), and is taking some seriously terrible shots. Then Green was late getting back on defense on several possessions and didn't pass half court on a couple offensive possessions. It cost the Grizzlies each time he did it.
Zach Randolph: 37 MINS | 24 PTS | 10-16 FGS | 13 REBS | +5
The Grizzlies were down and who woke their offense up? Zach Randolph did. The combination of ZBo realizing Ed Davis can't guard him and his offensive rebounding gave the Grizzlies the kick they needed to get it together. Without Randolph, the Grizzlies don't win this game. The Randolph/Tony Allen combo has become sneaky fun to watch on the defensive end. The two create trouble for opposing ball handers. The way they play together is special.
Marc Gasol: 36 MINS | 18 PTS | 5-11 FGS | 6 REBS | +14
When the Grizzlies struggled the most, it was because Gasol couldn't get established in the post or was just missing shots. Everything turned around when he hit a few shots and started getting to the free throw line. The defense he played on the Lakers bigs didn't even have to be otherworldly, but it was. They kept ending possessions with a Laker big in a one on one situation with Gasol. It never ended well for the Lakers.
Tony Allen: 29 MINS | 15 PTS | 7-8 FGS | 5 REBS | +1
THE TONY ALLEN "IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO START ME AGAIN" GAME. I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS AND IT MADE ME SO HAPPY TO SEE. It was a vintage "All Treats" Tony Allen game, except he didn't hit any threes. He took advantage of the weak Lakers defense better than any other Grizzly wing. They had no answer for him.
Nick Calathes: 13 MINS | 8 PTS | 3-5 FGS| 3 STLS | -13
SLICK NICK was all over the place against the Lakers. I don't think Jeremy Lin was exactly prepared for the kind of defense that Nick Calathes brings to the table. He had three steals and made the Lakers backcourt uncomfortable for all 13 minutes he was out there.
Kosta Koufos: 17 MINS | 2 PTS | 1-5 FGS | 5 REBS| -3
This is becoming the norm for Koufos when he is faced with more athletic defenders. He struggles from the field, cleans up the glass, and does his best on defense. Ed Davis yammed on him so bad that I thought he was going to explode into dust. It was a rough night for ole KSquared.
Beno Udrih: 9 MIN | 0 PTS | 0-2 FGS | 0 ASTS | -1

Vince Carter: 6 MINS | 0 PTS| 0-3 FGS | -3
