Memphis Grizzlies Report Card

Grizzlies 95 - Pacers 83

Coach Dave Joerger:

Grade: B+

I was intrigued to see how Joerger would approach this game. Would he rest the starters and go for the lower seed? Or play the starters and try and get as high a seed as possible? He went with the latter and came up trumps as he guided his team to the 5 seed and a playoff matchup with the banged up Trail Blazers. Great work Coach.

Coach stayed with the bench unit for a vast amount of the second quarter as they went on a fantastic run which helped to give the team a 13 point lead at half time. Joerger also played Jordan Adams for 23 minutes and kept him in for the majority of the fourth quarter. It remains to be seen how many minutes Adams will receive during the playoffs, but hopefully Dave will give him a few minutes if possible.

Starters

Beno Udrih: 16 MINS | 2 PTS | 1-3 FG | 1 REB | -7

Grade: C-

Beno didn't play much in the game, thanks in main to the fantastic performance of Nick Calathes. The minutes that he did receive were spent watching George Hill get the better of him. Beno didn't score his first (and only) points of the game until 5 minutes into the second half, hitting a trademark mid-range jumpshot. Will play more in the Blazers series.

Courtney Lee: 25 MINS | 8 PTS | 2-5 FG | 1 REB | -4

Grade: B-

Started the game extremely hot, knocking down 2 of his first 3 shots on route to 7 first quarter points. It looked like Courtney could have been on course for a much needed big night before the playoffs start. Unfortunately the big night wasn't to come as he would score just 1 more point in the game. He had his fourth quarter minutes taken off him by the impressive Jordan Adams.

Jeff Green: 34 MINS | 14 PTS | 6-14 FG | 3 ASTS | 2 REBS | +7

Grade: B+

Struggled to contain C.J. Miles in the first quarter as he took him to the rim and hit a couple of three's over him. Jeff did have a fine game on the offensive end, making 50% of his efforts taken inside the three point line. Green came up big in the fourth quarter, finding Calathes under the basket with a fine pass which Nick finished with the layup. With 2:19 left in the game Green finished a Grizzlies fastbreak with a layup on which he was fouled and went to the line to complete the 3 point play which put the Grizzlies up by 11 points.

Zach Randolph: 35 MINS | 18 PTS | 7-12 FG | 9 REBS | +1

Grade: A

Vintage ZBo performance. Zach pulled down important defensive rebounds, hit some nice looking fadeaways, and bullied his way into the paint time and time again against a less than impressive Pacers front line. Randolph came up with a huge ZBound with 5 minutes of the game left to extend the Grizzlies lead to 5 just as Indiana threatened to get back into the game. It looked to me like Zach knew just how important home court advantage in the first round would be to Memphis and he went out and earned it.

Marc Gasol: 37 MINS | 33 PTS | 13-19 FG | 13 REBS | 2 STLS | 1 BLK | +1

Grade: A+

Marc finished the regular season the same way he started it. By setting a new career high for points in a game. Gasol went in at the half with 18 points and 9 rebounds. His shots were dropping no matter how he took them or from where he took them. He showed no sign of ankle problems as he pirouetted with all the finesse of a seasoned ballet performer in front of Mahinmi before making the shot. Gasol wouldn't let up in the second half as he bagged himself a further 15 points as he finished with a 5th 30 point game of the season and a career high of 33 points, beating his previous best by 1 point. Selfish Marc (of whom I'm a big fan) finished a game with zero assists for just the third time this season. He also finished the game with three 3 point plays. Impressive work.

Bench

Nick Calathes: 31 MINS | 8 PTS | 3-7 FG | 6 ASTS | 6 REBS | 4 STLS | +19

Grade: A+

Amazing performance from Nick, did everything that was required, and more. Was finishing well at the rim, collecting rebounds on both ends of the floor and came up with numerous Tony-like-steals. He also finished the game with 50% of the Grizzlies assists. Calathes could be absolutely vital in the playoffs, he may not see too many minutes, but will give no less than 100% any time that he is on the court.

Vince Carter: 19 MINS | 0 PTS | 0-6 FG | 1 AST | 1 REB | +19

Grade: D+

I would've graded Vince much lower were it not for his nice bounce pass through the paint to find Gasol for the layup. Struggled with his shot, hopefully he can get something going in the first round games. I wouldn't count on it though.

Jordan Adams: 23 MINS | 6 PTS | 3-7 FG | 2 ASTS | 5REBS | 1 STL | +15

Grade: A

If only the rookie had been getting these kind of minutes all season! Perhaps he would have been ready to play decent minutes in the playoffs. Did a great job on both ends of the floor, coming up with a steal in the second quarter which resulted in him leading his own fastbreak and finishing with the runner. Great effort on the boards (5), and hitting 3-7 field goal attempts for 6 points. Found Randolph with a great no-look pass in the fourth quarter who finished with the easy layup.

Kosta Koufos: 15 MINS | 6 PTS | 9 REBS | +10

Grade: B

Great energy once again from KK. Pulled in a good number of rebounds in very few minutes. Hit 4-4 from the free throw line. I'm sure Koufos won't let himself or his team mates down in this playoff run before he goes on to become a starter somewhere else in the NBA.

JaMychal Green: 1 MIN | 1 REB | -1

Russ Smith: DNP CD

Jarnell Stokes: DNP CD
