2015 GBB Community Mock Draft: Orlando Magic Trade Pick #5

New, comments

GBB simulates the 2015 NBA Draft.

Previous Picks: #1 #2 #3 #4
Pick #5
Orlando Magic
GM: Andy Livingston

We have another trade!!

The deal:

Orlando Magic trade: Pick #5

for

Boston Celtics: Pick #16, 2016 First Round Pick (from Brooklyn)

With the fifth pick in the 2015 Draft, the Boston Celtics and HEARNBURN select:

5) Kristaps "Zinger" Porzingis, Power Forward from Latvia

From GM HEARNBURN:

We the Celtics have steadily acquired an arsenal of draft picks for the next few drafts. As the GM, I felt it was time to put them to use. I offered our 2015 # 16 first round pick and the Brooklyn Nets 2016 unprotected pick to the Magic for the #5 overall selection. I felt that an immediate impact player was not going to be available at #16 and that we needed to be aggressive in pursuit of a high lottery pick. The Celtics still have the # 28 pick in this draft and could have up to three first round picks in 2016.

Kristaps "Zinger" Porzingis is the Celtics power forward of the future. He is one of the most interesting players in the draft because of his combination of height, length, skills, and shooting. He is a very mobile 7 footer, but will need to add weight/strength. "Zinger" can play above the rim with ease and is able to cover ground quickly due to his athleticism. With his long arms and quick feet, he can serve as a rim protector for us and switch on screens. Something coveted in today's NBA.

Following the mold of a lot of big men from Europe, Porzingis has the ability to shoot from almost anywhere on the court. He has a soft touch from the perimeter combined with very solid shooting mechanics. He is able to come off screens and knock down shots with a quick release. With a high release point, it is almost impossible to contest his shot. If the defense closes out quickly, Kristaps is able to put the ball on the floor and get to the basket. You can tell that Porzingis has watched a few Dirk videos. He is able to hit short turnaround jumpers with ease and has a great midrange game.

Porzingis is a long way from reaching his potential, but we think Brad Stevens will certainly help that. Porzingis will need to improve his strength and rebounding before he will be an all around threat. Stevens can play Zinger with either Olynyk/Zeller/Sullinger on the floor to create a very interesting front court to build on.

We have two imports in the top 5 of the draft! Pretty cool. Up next in the GBB Mock Draft we have the Sacramento Kings and axelrowlings at pick #6.
