Pick #21
Dallas Mavericks
GM: ethanwi11iams
Pre-draft analysis from the GM:
The Mavs aren't as focused on the draft as other teams. They have other things to worry about. Namely the player options that are floating around in the air right now and the big name free agents that they want to corral to Dallas this off-season (Aldridge?). Rondo is gone and the PG position includes Devin Harris and Raymond Felton (who has a player option). The SG position is pretty bare with only Monta Ellis (who also has a player option. The SF position has Chandler Parsons and Al-Farouq Aminu (who yet again has a player option). The PF Position includes Dirk Nowitzki and Dwight Powell. Last but not least, the center position does not have one guaranteed player on the roster.
Knowing all that...I'm not going to draft for need. I'm going to draft best player available. When you're picking in the lower half of the first round you are not guaranteed to pick a player who will stick around in the NBA. It seems evident to me that the Mavs need just about everything anyways.
And with the 21st pick in the draft, GM ethanwi11iams and the Mavs select:
21) Rashad Vaughn, SG from UNLV

From GM ethanwi11iams:
Rashad Vaughn, a 6'5" 200 pound SG, can put the ball in the hoop. As a freshman at UNLV this past season he scored just under 18 points a game. He shot 48% from two and 38% from three. Vaughn had a very high usage rate at UNLV, right around 30%, which put him in 3rd in his conference. Even more impressive though, he didn't turn the ball over much at all despite the high usage rate.
Vaughn is 18 and has shown the ability to score the basketball. He will need some time to develop but I will take my chances on Vaughn sticking around in the NBA.
Next up is GM Burgundy and the Chicago Bulls with the 22nd pick in the draft. Stay tuned!
