It has been a wild free agency already in the NBA, and it isn't even day two yet. Now, the Memphis Grizzlies have reportedly started to enter the fray, even before finalizing an agreement with Marc Gasol.
This tweet from Jared Zwerling of Bleacher Report first reported the activity...
Source: Memphis and Mo Williams are closing in on a deal. Three or four years. Not done yet.

Which led to a bunch of questions, such as...
"Why sign a 32 year old combo guard to a 3 or 4 year deal?"
"What does this mean for Beno Udrih?"
"Is there a trade on the horizon?"
Then, Chris Herrington of the Commercial Appeal in Memphis tweeted out this...
Hearing the Grizzlies have *not* reached a contract agreement with Mo Williams, though there has been some contact.

Told any discussions with Williams are nowhere close to a contract.

Perhaps things are not as hot and heavy between Williams and the Grizzlies as initially reported. Memphis could certainly use some additional bench scoring, and Mo Williams brings a 34% three-point shooting percentage with him, along with a willingness to shoot the basketball. This was clearly shown in a random 52-point performance earlier this season.
But this Grizzlies' team already has a lot of point guards, and a Williams addition would likely just be the first step in a sequence of moves.
The three to four year nature of the deal is reason to pause, but Williams and Memphis have been connected to one another in contract negotiations in the past. However close the two sides are or aren't, it appears that the Grizzlies will remain active even while securing the services of Marc Gasol.
