The USA Basketball program is assembling their possible pool of players for the 2016 Summer Olympics, and the Memphis Grizzlies own Mike Conley is one of the new invitees to the camp this summer according to Marc Stein!
Sources told ESPN.com that USAB has extended invitations to Chicago's Jimmy Butler, Memphis ' Mike Conley, Golden State's Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes, Orlando's Tobias Harris and Victor Oladipo and Utah's Trey Burke to its Aug. 11-13 camp on the campus of UNLV.
Aside from Mike possibly getting the acknowledgment we know he all deserves, Conley making a run at the USA Olympic team would be be special because of the reflection of his dad Mike Conley, Sr. and his accomplishments in the 1992 Olympics.
It would seem counterproductive for a guy who's been struggling to make it through an entire NBA season to tack on a venture like the Olympics, especially considering his teammate Marc Gasol has decided to sit out from the Spanish National team this summer, but I hope it's something Mike and the Grizzlies take into consideration. NBA fans seemed determined to keep Conley off an All-Star team so this would at least be some way for him to make a national mark.
