Memphis Grizzlies Media Day: Mike Conley says bad luck played role in 2015 playoffs

Mike Conley is officially a leader for the Memphis Grizzlies. It's been this way for a while, but after seeing him take the mantle of a masked Superman in the 2015 NBA Playoffs, there's a different air about him.

"I told me wife last night that this is as good as my body will feel for a long time."

"All of our young guys look really good. They can take some reps off the older guys who don't need to play as many minutes."

"I think the young guys have such a different skill set from the other guys on our team. They can give us a different look."

"I've grown up in this league with these guys (core 4)."

"I don't think our window is closing. As we've gotten older we've gotten better."

"We take care of our bodies."

"It's easy to look at last season and use injuries as an excuse. But in the western conference you've got to have some luck. And last season we were just unlucky. A whole bunch of things didn't go our way."

"We still could have played better last season regardless of our injuries."

"We definitely feel like we have something to prove."

"I'm going to keep the mask, at least for a little while."

"The fans were unbelievable last year."

"I love this city and I think it's a great time in my career. Free agency will take care of itself when time comes. I'm going to focus on this season."

Thoughts: Mrs. Conley's reality check aside, this is great stuff from Mike. I hope his belief about the team getting better with age holds true. And hopefully year #3 of being under the medical care afforded by Robert Pera starts to pay off with extended seasons for Capt. Clutch.
