Memphis Grizzlies franchise center Marc Gasol was the man of the hour. It's no coincidence he was one of the last people out. Bands usually play their big hits at the end of a show.
"This was the first time in 14 years not playing basketball during the summer. It was difficult."
"I think you guys know how I look at this town. I've been here a long time, since I was 15 or 16. Now, my only thing is to win a ring and I'm going to do everything to accomplish that."
"It may have been easier to win a ring somewhere else but winning a ring here would be so much sweeter."
"Jeff Green is a really talented and unique guy and we have to be able to use him."
"We have to compensate and balance our offense where everybody feels like they are in a rhythm."
"I just saw Pau at 35 dominate Europe. I don't really worry about age."
"I worked on a lot of small details that are maybe hard for people to see."
"I'm going to try to be a little bit less emotional so I can lead these guys."
"We have to step a little bit into the unknown to be elite. We have to push ourselves to the next level."
"You work on things now but also throughout the season. You don't wait until the playoffs to try to fix them."
"I drove yesterday by the corn maze. It was a great thing. Sometimes you get things that you can't even dream of."
"Mike didn't talk to me a lot about free agency. So I'm not going to do that to him."
"Mike didn't have to prove how tough he was to us. We always knew that. (Re: Mike Conley in the playoffs)
"There's a unique marriage between the city and the team."
"To be elite, you have to be elite every day."
Thoughts: I could just post a bunch of happy emojis here, but I'll try some analysis. I think Marc's comment about finding a balance in the offense is big. We might not see the Grizzlies leaping into the new age of the NBA this season, but we could see some smaller changes that help them emulate what the rest of the league is doing in their own way. Better rhythm means faster play and more efficiency.
